Certainly looks interesting, Luis. Especially it's claim to be "non-toxic"...

Re: Alclad II vs. Kosutte Gin San...bye, bye Alclad!

This is my question about the Kosutte Gin San... when I have used it, the base has been Alclad II semi gloss base and when I covered it with the kosutten, the chrome result is very dark chrome. Shinny but dark. Is not a regular light shinny chrome... what Am I doing wrong?

Zonic. - Try using a light metallic base or a silver color
I find silver mica is too light but something like Tamiya's light metallic is just right
Hope this will help you

Also try a gloss black. I have used gloss black and it worked pretty good. But like john stated try a silver metallic paint like tamiyas gun metal.

PS Look at page one of this thread and read the first post. He used gloss black alclad to achieve his results.

Sorry, I miss spoke... I used Alclad II Gloss black (same base as recommended for Alclad Chrome) and it gives me a dark chrome with KGS, not a normal looking chrome.

Zonic - yes try the Tamiya light gun metal. I had good results with it. I think it is either TS-42 or TS-38. Not sure which one is the lighter color but the light gun metal is more chrome like than the gun metal
Hope it helps
try testing on a spoon

Re: Alclad II vs. Kosutte Gin San...bye, bye Alclad!

I did this test 2 years ago....

Automotive Gloss Black

with Kosutte

Problem with Kosutte is that the fingerprint marks the paint.

First test: I put my finger 100 times in the trunk lid. Result: it loses the gloss and looks like aluminum.

Second test: I used a polisher in the roof. Result: Kosutte is gone.

Third test: after a few days, more kosutte and microfiber cloth to clean the body. Result: more shine!

It's been 2 years since these tests and the body remains exactly the same way, no shine was lost. I still want to apply the clear coat to check the result.

Regards,
Denilson

Denison. I have found that when I have tried to apply clearcoat to KGS that the luster of the chrome effect is lost
The MFG states to use enamel not lacquer because the KGS sticks better but you must also let it sit to setup so you can buff it well
Hope this helps

You will destroy the shine effect, Denílson.

I know Pacheco, I'm using this body to do some paint tests.

And I did it this morning...

Unfortunately the clear paints I have here don't work well with Kosutte.

Try Alclad's Aqueos clear cote. It was made to cover the chrome. It works very well without reducing the chrome effect. Also try Future. The problem with other clears is they react with chrome paint or Kosutte coating. These clears are very neutral chemically and do not react.
