Strut Rub

Anyone around ehre have the problem of tires rubbing against the struts in '04-'06 GTO's?
I just ran into this problem and judging by info all over the net it is a big problem. I had never heard a word about it, just stumbled into it when rotating tires and found worn tires and rub marks on the struts.

I am wondering what has been effective in correcting the problem. Some people have said alignments... which I don't think is the best way. Others have changed strut bushings, which sounds best... I am just wondering how the results have been after making repairs.

Any info? Thoughts?

Re: Strut Rub

I had strut rub on my GTO, a simple alignment took care of it.

Re: Strut Rub

Well so far an alignment has taken care of it... I am worried that it will happen again though and maybe I won't be lucky enough to notice it in time.

I found lots of info on the net about the strut bushings being bad which caused strut rub. I wonder if the bushings are bad but the alignment correction is a simpler fix. I haven't taken my strut apart yet... not sure if I want to mess with it. I am going to wait a few thousand miles and see how the tire wear looks.

Re: Strut Rub

From what I understand, this was a result of shipping to the US. The cars were strapped down tightly enough to bottom out the struts, then when the boat hit waves, the cars had no bounce.

Re: Strut Rub

I replaced all the rubber bushings on the front with urethance (pedders) and used wheel alignment specifications from another web site. Worked out the best as I can bury her in corners now and have not rubbed the struts.
