engine swapping
ok so i'm new to this shit. anyways, replacing the engine in my 99 sunfire gt 2.4 l twin cam auto is on my list. what are some good brands? i've noticed ecotec on the forums a lot, but is that it? and is there anything that might be designed for my car that i wouldn't have to make custom parts for? i just don't have the access to most of the tools or materials needed for that sorta shit.

Re: engine swapping
The Ecotec is, IMO, the only worthwhile option. As much work as that is, and since you say you don't have the tools, I'd suggest you just build your engine for some more power and throw a turbo/super charger on it.

Re: engine swapping
since the ecotec is a 2.2 l engine and what i've got now is the 2.4 l, am i gonna lose power and performance and all that if i switch to the ecotec?

Re: engine swapping
Technically you would have less power... The Ecotec has 5 less HP but is soooo much lighter due to the aluminum block that the lower weight gives you better performance (and much better high speed cornering. There is also much more aftermarket performance stuff around for the Ecotec since the quad4 is no longer in production.

Re: engine swapping
www.car-part.com had 33 pages of results.
I would personally get one from a local salvage yard, but it's up to you.

Re: engine swapping
There is a good place in NY to get engines. Used ones. They are on ebay. Respectable, courteous, honest and reputable. I bought a used 2.2L engine and Trans for my 1999. So far so good. I will find out next weekend when I finish the installation.
