As best as I've ever been able to tell looking at photos and cutaways, it's part of the shift linkage going across the top of the differential to the gearbox.

It appears to have a bleed nipple on it... My guess is the clutch slave cylinder

This picture is of the XJR-9 same as an XJR-6, XJR-8 & XJR-12. The part in questions is the slave cylinder as already suggested. The shift linkage can be seen lower running under the top wishbone. You can make out the orange donut of the universal joint in the linkage just in front of the rear leg of the wishbone. Basically this is what you are looking at, a Girling Slave Cylinder. It looks as though the fitting arrangement has been swapped but that is not uncommon with this type of cylinder. This is an XJR-8 This is of the LeMans Winner from 1990 when it was being built up at TWR/USA in Valparaiso Indiana when I worked there I took these with a point and shot disposable Kodak Camera, sorry for the picture quality This is also an XJR-9 And these are of an XJR-12 More pictures can be found here: http://s601.photobucket.com/user/dtc...?sort=3&page=1 I hope this helps!!
