Brake Sensor?
I am wondering if anyone has ever had any problems not being able to shift out of park. I'm in MN and 2 weeks ago it started to get really cold, ever since then I have to let my car warm up for 30 minutes before I can shift out of park. A friend thinks it might have something to do with a brake sensor sticking. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions? thank you

Re: Brake Sensor?
Welcome to AF.
For safety reasons there is a brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI) circuit. When you step on the brake, a switch sends a signal to the shift interlock solenoid located on the center console which in turn will allow you to shift out of PARK. The same brake sensor is used to activate the rear brake lights including the third brake light. Has any coffee or soda ever been spilled on the shifter? You may have a sticky solenoid or low voltage feeding the BTSI circuits. Also, make sure your charging system is good to include the battery. Could be affected by the cold weather.
