Overheating 2.5 v6 156
Hello there can any one help recently my 156 has started to over heat it and I cant find the problem it does not use any water also no leaks the fans come on and cool it down the thermostat is opening and closeing the problem hapens when I accelerate and put the engine under a little pressure well guys that's it can you Help cheers Brian

When my 156 2.5 V6 did this I had to replace the water pump. It has a nylon impeller that cracks about the shaft and spins under load. The symptome were same as you decribe and progressively became more acute. best regards, Ian Anderson.. |

Had the same problem with my 156 - overheating especially when revving. My mechanics initially suggested the water pump was the most likely cause...however, before they went ahead with changing this (and severly damaging my bank balance), they did a few basic checks - and low and behold, it seems there was a rather large air bubble in our cooling system - 4 litres of waters worth of air bubble.... once that was removed and the cooling system topped up the problem disappeared! I think we got lucky but I would say before you go ahead and change the pump this is definitely worth a check!
