Turbo Tranny

I have posted about a tranny problem and the problem fixed. But now it is messing up again. Turns out the stock 420a tranny cannot handle a turbo. It is destroying the barrings on my input shaft (from what the machanic says) He said the clutch plate is fine.

Is there at all a tranny made for a 420a with turbo? IM getting desperate. Car has been sitting in the shop for almost 2 months. I went to a site called http://www.engineandtransmissionworld.com and when I put that I have a 1995 Mit Eclipse, it turns up with a MT-FWD NT and Turbo. But I never thought they made a turbo tranny for a 420a. But from what the site turns up they do. I don't want to spend $800 until I know it is the right one. Thanks.

Re: Turbo Tranny

Donno if you realize this or not but there was a FWD turbo... It was the GST... It used the 4g63 motor... That is the one in reference...

There have been several members here that turbocharged their 420a motors and have had no problems with their tranny. Maybe a few clutch issues but I never heard of anything major with the tranny. Are you sure yours just didn't have issues before all this was done to it? Proper maintenance? Gotta explore all the possibilities so ya don't have another tranny go bad on you.

When I bought the car it had a tranny problem. I bought a new clutch for it. About 4 months later it started slipping and 5th gear was popping out to were I had to old it in gear. The guy that is working on it said he is going to replace the input shaft and barrings cause he said that is whats causing the 5th gear to pop. Hoping after he fixes that, I will be ok cause when the tranny was fixed about 4 or 5 months ago the input shaft wasn't replaced.

One more question. Can a 4g63 bolt up to a 95rs? And the wiring match? Sorry if I asked that question before.

Re: Turbo Tranny

No, a 4g63 motor cannot drop into an rs and bolt right up and match up with wiring. The two motors are completely opposite of each other in the engine bays.

I would say you need to get all the problems within your tranny ironed out first. Your motor being turbocharged will not cause the problems your experiencing. I believe your tranny may have been abused by the prior owner and that is causing all your current tranny woes. I went thru the same thing with my tranny from the previous owner when I first got it.

Re: Turbo Tranny

Just put another stock tranny in it. They do make built trannies for the 420a, but I forgot who makes them. My tranny is bone stock with almost 150k on it and its fine with almost 400bhp going threw it. Never had a single issue

^ With that being said, I would look to blame other parts before blaming the tranny. my .02

Re: Turbo Tranny

Same here. Never had a trans problem after my rebuild (5th was popping out). Rebuild with a good clutch and you're set.
