2.0L SES light, running lean

My sisters '96 Contour with the Zetec is throwing an "engine running lean" code and has been for some time. I don't have the specific code, but I have done a few things that i thought could be contributers like replacing the O2 sensors, plugs and wires, and fuel filter. I'm wondering what else might be causing this light to trigger. She says under no conditions does it feel or sound anything other than normal, but the light remains. Any ideas?

Re: 2.0L SES light, running lean

Some causes of P0171 system too lean are:

1. The MAF (Mass Air Flow) sensor is dirty or faulty.
2. There could be a vacuum leak.

Some solutions to P0171 are:

1. In the vast majority of cases simply cleaning the MAF sensor will do the trick. Spray with electronics cleaner or brake cleaner.

2. Replace the PCV valve.

3. Inspect all vacuum and PCV hoses for leaks.

4. Replace fuel filter. (you've done this. Good!)

Re: 2.0L SES light, running lean

I was playing around under there, and found a couple tiny hoses that didn't seem to be seated properly. I reseated them and the light does not seem to be on anymore the last couple engine cycles. I was going to clean the MAF, but I don't have any torq bits with a center punch (wth). I went to replace the PCV valve and decided it was too much work because of where it is located. If it comes down to it I can, but it certainly doesn't look like it's made to be replaced. Hopefully it was just the vacuum leak, and I will try to locate a set of center punched torq bits for the MAF.

Thanks for your help, Dave!
