CR-V 2001 replacing front brakes and rear brake shoes

This week I'm thinking of replacing my front brakes (pads/rotors) and rear brake shoes and I have a couple questions on buying the parts needed for it. Should I buy the parts on this website http://www.1aauto.com/1A/brake-pad-a...Fc1afgod5gIAZQ, they have the best price that I've seen but I'm worried that it might be poor quality parts or should go to my local NAPA auto store. Also does it make a difference having a OEM part or aftermarket part for the brakes/paying a higher price, and is there a good video/tutorial on how to change the brakes.

Re: CR-V 2001 replacing front brakes and rear brake shoes

How many miles do you have on the car? I ask because my 2000 CRV has 150k and still does not need rear brake shoes. When it comes to brakes, you get what you pay for. Most any shoes and pads will work, but the better ones will stop better, have less dust, and probably last longer. Be sure to put brake grease on the back of the pads to avoid squeaks and drain some of the brake fluid before compressing the rotors. There are videos on youtube, just remember Honda and Acura have same design. I personally like ericthecarguy's videos.

Re: CR-V 2001 replacing front brakes and rear brake shoes

When you step on the brakes your life is in your foot's hands.( George Carlin).
If you're having any doubts about quality just go with the Napa's. I do believe they're made by Wagner and you'll support your local economy. Be sure to use the shims where supplied.
Check the rotors for wear. The CRV doesn't give much latitude on maximum wear limits for the rotors. Don't bother with the ceramics unless you're turning or replacing the rotors,(suggested). I've had problems with internet bought park brake shoes not fitting the rotor/drum and had to get brand name shoes locally. That was a PITA. Lost on that job!
Even the OEM's have them made by somebody. They'e a compromise between quality and cost.
I've seen a coupla of "Eric the car guy's" vids. He seemed ok until he got into heavy work like head gaskets, engine's,etc. Then he didn't come across as confident in what he was doing. But he's ok on brakes. HTH
