1989 c1500 stalls occationally under load

I have a 1989 c1500, 5.7 silverado with 390000 original miles. Lately I've been having problems with the vehicle stalling when I'm at a stop light, bwckung up, or pulling slowly into a parking space. I thought the IAC was going bad so I went a head and replaced it with tbe same results. The fuel pump is only about a year old and vacuum pump is a fww years old. It runs great cold and on the freeway justdies sometimes when it's nice and warm and idling under load..... any ideas on what might be the cause.?

Sticking or carboned up egr is one possibility.

I took the egr off today and cleaned the carbon from the ports. I had an old egr that I took off the truck when I thought it was bad before. Anyway, there was no change , truck stalls when idling in gear .

Idles fine then suddenly studders like it's fuel starved and dies. Starts right back up. I ordered a new delco IAC since the one I put in was a different brand and it acts like a IAC issue.

this really sounds like module on the back of the distributor, really common problem. if the screws come out its a cheap fix, if they don't you may need a distributor. any parts store can get them, most even used to stock the module, as well as distributors for these truck, but not so much now with newer vehicles not having them.

yes that's exactly what I mean. they are so common on these for causing the exact driveability problems you are having. not always 100% the problem, blocking off the egr really helps a lot on these older ones too, but if you have emission testing in your area, might not want to block it off.

Sorry I meant to follow up on this sooner......module was the culprit. I've had this go bad before but before the engine jus tstopped and wouldn't start...Thanks again all for the input...

Thanks to the original poster for coming back and updating the status, I wish more folks would do this, it really helps out others down the road who may run into similar problems.
