2016 Group Build- Road & Track!
It's been a while since we've done a group build here. Anyone up for one?
There have been many, many kits over the years that manufacturers have released in street and racing versions of the same car. Since I tend to like both, I often buy both versions- and I'm sure I'm not the only one that does this. Just in my stash, I have: Audi Quattro street and rally Mini Cooper street and rally Subaru Impreza WRX and WRC BMW E36 318 street and BTCC BMW M1 street and Procar BMW M635CSi and 635CSi Gr. A Ferrari F40 Stradale and Competizione ...and I could probably go on. Got any yourself? Porsche 911s and McLaren F1s and Skylines and Corvettes and.... My idea is this- Road & Track. Build a matched pair of a car, in street and racing forms. Suggested Guidelines: -Starts end of 2015 -Ends end of 2016 -Real road car -Real race car, that competed in a real sanctioned event -If you already have one of a pair completed, then you only need to build the other one: but at least one should be substantially built and completed in 2016 -When we're all done (end of next year), everyone will submit a pic of your two builds nose to nose, and we will put them in a gallery thread. -If you want to do more than one pair, bring it! -Contest with voting and prizes if we feel like it In?

Re: Group Build- Road & Track
I'm in. I tried this exact thing a couple years ago on another forum, no one seemed interested. But, like you, I often like/love the road and track versions of the same cars. I'm all for the "must of competed in a sanctioned event" for the track version, but often, there are beautiful cars done for the street that never get a "track" version. I'd say "ghost" racers should be allowed but they have to look like a race car, slapping some racing decals on the street version and slick tires shouldn't count., As an example of one that could count, is Veyron's Ferrari 619 GTR (think it was the 619) he did a few years back.
Just what I think, but its your idea so you can make the rules. Either way I'm in. David |

I'm in; my club ACME has had that theme before at our Southern Nationals NNL, and it's always been popular.

They are guidelines, not necessarily rules. If converting a road kit into a plausible phantom racer is a builder's thing, there's no reason they need be excluded. But there is such a vast array of OOB kits that have been released in street and racing versions that it seems easy and fun to pick a favorite and not to bother with conversions. At least that's what I'm doing. Paolo, you're welcome to build along as your schedule allows. We will plan to do a 'victory lap' thread the end of next year for everyone to show off their builds- but that thread won't close. You can still join the parade even if you finish a bit late.

Re: Group Build- Road & Track
For me, the reason I'd like the include "phantom racers" is, I've got my Flying Lizard's Porsche 918 GT1 build as well as a stock 918 both of which are on pause as I wait for extras to arrive, so I'd be doing those kits for an R/T build.

Good idea, I will try to participate if I can since I have the models in my stack. I sadly have already too many projects on the go...

Re: Group Build- Road & Track
That sounds interesting.
I am new here and nowhere near as good as most of you as a modeller, but I am currently building multiple Peugeot 205 T16s and I'd like to do a road version (the Grp.B homologation series that is) as well. So count me in, if you want. |

Re: Group Build- Road & Track
Might give me a kick in the ass to start building again.....which a lot of modellers need right about now.

Re: Group Build- Road & Track
This GB is interesting. My problem is that I only have race cars. It would be a very good excuse for me to build my only rally car, the Tamiya Mini Cooper Monte Carlo Rally.
I need to think a little more about it. What if instead of someone to build two models, we make a team of two builders, one builder would tackle the street version and the other one the racing version? F1-fan |

Re: Group Build- Road & Track
Sorry, no time.
I'm building a BMW i8 right now, I'm converting it into a DTM race car. It's a lot of work. My deadline is december 2016. modellmaker.
