Do you like the '05 Mustang?
I recently drove a co-workers new GT and was impressed. It was gray/silver with red leather interior. The interior makes you feel as if you are in a classic car, except one with the smell and feel of a brand new classic. Neat how Ford mixed in modern tech. with throw-back feel. It was surreal to look at a digital compass and mpg readout on a tiny display amidst the classic analogue guages. It was cool.
FYI, here is some good info: http://www.automedia.com/autoReviews...1mg.asp?affid= |

I love it, but since you posted this under "performance" I think Ford should have tried to find alil more then 300 horses, even if it meant a small price stretch.

Re: Do you like the '05 Mustang?
I'd hate to burst your bubble and all since you have one...but no. LS1s are faster. I have a stock 02 GT and I've got the best of the 05 GTs.

Re: Do you like the '05 Mustang?
dampaci, probally a stick vs. Automatic, where you shifted perfectly, or the 05 wasnt full throttle...
Stock for Stock an 05 hits 13.7s, a 99-2004 is mid to low 14s. |

Re: Do you like the '05 Mustang?
Yea, people are running 13.70's and 13.60's at the track in bone stock 05's. I G-teched mine at ALOT of 13.50's and one 13.20. My 0 - 60 times were 4.9, 5.0 and 5.1. Most of the other 05' guys are getting 0 - 60 in 5.0 and one guy I saw got a 4.8! WOW! Though my times were on my G-Tech, I would assume it would be a few tenths slower at the track, but timeslips show most guys are getting 13.70's.
I drove my friends LS1 and got the best of a 13.90 at the track and a few other guys kept getting 14.0-14.1. I know how to launch a little better than them so I got it into the 13's for him. This was in an automatic 2000 Firebird. A guy posted his times of 13.8 in his automatic 05' GT. Proof enough for me. |

You mean trans am? I've never seen a stock 05 gt run mid 13s. I saw some do 14.1s and 13.9s.

Re: Do you like the '05 Mustang?
Yea im not denying the power/acceleration of the 05. I am just saying alil more would not have hurt. Remember we have a v8 in our stangs, and with the recent horsepower war we have lately, some import 6bangers are doing 298 or higher (298hp = new g35). However, we out do them in one major area: TORQUE.

Re: Do you like the '05 Mustang?
You are right about adding a little more power, but this is where the grand scheme of marketing comes into play....
If you want more power, you buy the Cobra. The GT was made as a baseline GT car for the general public to enjoy a powerful Mustang punch. For the extreme power hungry people, Mustang also has quite a few options for them. Cobra, Cobra R, ROUSH, Saleen, etc... Ford has the power set on the GT at about for a good reason. Marketing. If they run the power up on thr GT's, then the cobra and others will need more power, which makes the car become something out of their desired price range. They lose sales and ultimately, Ford loses money. Since the 05' GT's are more powerful than other GT's I feel it is deffinately a GOOD step for Ford and WELL worth the money! Heck, if you want it faster.... mod it. It would probably be cheaper to mod it yourself anyway then have them come from the factory with more power. Just an FYI, most Ferrari's are 12 second cars, so spending under $30K for a car that is only one second slower than a Ferrari is a GREAT deal in my book! heh... with a few mods, you are running 12's and still under $31K. |

Re: Do you like the '05 Mustang?
Heh...I cant even afford to mod my 99 GT, let alone by an 05 and mod it. I understand what your saying with the marketing. I guess 300 was a smart range at a good price. Even though comparing cars by times isnt really smart anyway. I mean a 2006 z06 does a 1320 in 11.7 (according to C&D), which would make it a definite ferrari killer, at half the price. However ferrari pricing has alot to do with the name, materials, conforts, suspensions, importation...ect alot.
