why not a 911 contest?
Hi there,
why dont we make a porsche 911 contest/section? It is a subject nearly all of us like and own in all versions, from street ones to racing ones, from 935s to RWBs. just wonder....why not? no time limit to make the models, maybe every year a votation about the nicest done during the year, possibility to make everything based on 911's, from street ones to 959's to gt1's or 901s . Everything coming from this immortal car.... can be a cool idea, isnt it?

Re: why not a 911 contest?
I really like Porsche, and it can be a cool idea, but I won't go till a dedicated section or you'll see all Ferrari fans claim for same, and then Nissan fans too, either Toyota fans... etc etc
A Porsche build contest would be cool though. |

Re: why not a 911 contest?
I'd like to see the results, but wouldn't enter myself - I can't STAND Porsche!
Utterly bland, boring and repetetive. (Now I'll get shot down in flames!!!!) I did build the little 1/43 high-detail Renaissance 935 kit a while back and it was amazing, but that's more down to the kit (1/43 with almost 300 parts!) rather than the car. I've also got the big Tamiya 1/12 beastie, but TBH, haven't had the urge to do more than open the box a few times. Immortal??? Grass is immortal but I wouldn't want to build kits of it........ Right - now my head is down. Roy. |

Re: why not a 911 contest?
ahah Roy
It is the only sportscar germans can make. for different "estro", u shall travel 500 kmts south to Zuffenhausen and arrive to Maranello... but thats another story Contest idea is cool I think, surely as Phil says, better than a proper section only dedicated to her. Maybe an open contest without any deadline, just to show the 911's done by every modeller here. many many build up those cars I see.. But how to do such?maybe we need a moderator fixing the rules? dunno really..

Re: why not a 911 contest?
We normally have a year-end contest, so we can either have a special award within it, or have a themed group build toward the end of the first half of each year to even out the workload.
Perhaps the winner of the MOTY may be awarded with the privilege of choosing the theme (or several themes to be voted by the members)? That should add a little bit of fun. Incidentally, I just bought a 911 kit yesterday, so whatever the 911 event is going to be, I'll be in, so long as the deadline is several months away. |

Re: why not a 911 contest?
I am in the idea not to make any deadline, just a report of all works done year by year.
People can feel forced to finish (read rush, and thats never good in modelling) the model and thats something I dont like. It will be enough to make a long forum collection of those nice cars, united by the fact to be all 911's.in an unique year by year production contest. Every year there is a group of finished models and they can be voted by members. Then they all remain joined in an hall of fame for others/new members that simply wanna see all theme thematically together. I am looking the FB porsche classic foto collection. they are incredible. wonder how nice can it be to do the same...with modelling http://www.facebook.com/PorscheClassic

Re: why not a 911 contest?
So why not a thread that will compile all Porsche build threads links ?
And in this main thread a contest year by year by listing builds completed in the year ? No dead line as any build unfinished a year could be listed the following year once completed. Something close to what we did with Ferrari 60's anniversary or McRae tribute builds, dead line less... |

Re: why not a 911 contest?
I Like your Idea! Its been awhile since AF did a Community Build (Last one was the Cayman Interseries which became very popular! Even had the Drivers watching!!)
But I do think it needs to be a build contest with an end date (to motovate people to build) & maybe a prize aswell. I recently competed in Community Build project for GTRs which was heaps of fun (& late nights!) & thought of rasing the issue here, but couldnt think of an approiate theme. I like yours, most people have a Porsche in their collection or their to-build pile & theres heaps of Variations!

I really don't think an end date is fair for everyone. Just see the number of entering people compared to the number or real submissions at the end... Either it's a one shot contest with an end date or it's a yearly sumup and prized of builds letting everyone decide when they enter and when they end their builds. Depending on what we expect of it, being a unique year event or being a forum perpetual story. I think Paolo's first idea was more the second point. Re: why not a 911 contest?
ahah Nomad, nono, I dont have any RWB..still. But of course I want to make many of theme (maybe the badass 964's based cars..without a tk till today.)
Yes, my idea was to let it open, cause I've seen in such contest the deadline for models is usually respcted by few modellers , mainly for a matter of time. For example, the stunning masterpiece in progress by SB can enter the contest too, but probably he will finish the model in 2015. Big big gallery contest with all all models presented by 1 or 2 pics and the referred wip below. simple and easy to enter for all.

Re: why not a 911 contest?
I agree with the idea to have a yearly contest and if you don't have the model in that year, you can post your model to the following. In this way, you don't have an end date that can be "damage" your model to get it on time.

Re: why not a 911 contest?
I like the idea too, all Porsche types in a special Thread and at the end of every year a contest for all types and scales.
