Reference on the Ferrari 250 entered 1962 in Le Mans by NART (Chassis 3223)
Hey,
I need some help. Iīm looking for reference on the above mentioned Ferrari 250 GTO. I searched google and various sites but I canīt find any pictures. It was entered by NART in Le Mans 1962 with the starting number 17 and suppossingly finished 6th. I would like to get pictures of this car in itīs original colorway from 1962 (blue and white). Thank you in advance. Robert

You might want to check on Ferrarichat.
Look up the chassis number or look under old photos. Im sure if you look hard enough on that site you will find a few photos of it. Tom Tanner/Scale Designs/Ferrari Expo 2010 model/photo contest-Chicago April 24th 2010 Quote:

Hi
I also expect the construction of this model and stand before the same problem. I only got these two pictures from that time. I think blue is a metallic shade like the Cobra: http://www.hiroboy.com/catalog/produ...roducts_id=906

Thank you for posting these pictures.
I thought that the blue was not metallic at all. The box art from Fujimi seems to show a solid blue. TBH I donīt trust the kit manufacturers on these things at all. Another topic: Did anybody buy the Targa Florio decals from mediamixhobby for the 250 GTO? What kind of quality are they? Does anybody have reference on these GTOs as well besides the above stated source. Iīm going to go through all of the 101 pages on the ferrarichat-site. When I find something, Iīll post it here. Cheers Robert

Try the chassis number or under 250 GTO first. BTW, alot of those photos are under copyright.

Re: Reference on the Ferrari 250 entered 1962 in Le Mans by NART (Chassis 3223)
I wonīt post any pictures of which I know that there is a copyright on them.
Nevertheless, what I found out so far: The #17 NART 250 GTO in Le Mans 1962 was chassis #3387. It was produced with the indicators underneath the headlamps (see the Monza test track pics for that) and didnīt have any heating ducts in the front. These have been added later. The car was raced in Nassau and in Sebring in 1962 in the same color as in Le Mans. What I donīt know whether the specifications were changed obviously to the Le Mans racing modifications. The car has been repainted several times. It raced in Le Many in a light metallic blue called Blue Gentania. Pictures of the restored can be found on http://www.ferraridatabase.com/The_Cars/1962/1962.htm. Thatīs from me so far. Any more information - especially pictures from the front in Le Mans on which the heating ducts and indicators can be seen - are hoghly appreciated. Cheers Robert

Re: Reference on the Ferrari 250 entered 1962 in Le Mans by NART (Chassis 3223)
Blumel's book says the 3223 was repainted in Blu Gentiana Metallic, and a quick search brought me to this page.
http://www.web-cars.com/gto/up_close_f-gto-3387.php The 3387 was delivered in Blu Gentina Metallic, so those two should give you a clue of what to search further. Newer Ferraris (like 355) have a color called NART blue metallic. Could that be a reminiscent of the classic blue, maybe? |

Here is what I have... It appears the GTO is slightly darker than the sister TR.

Re: Reference on the Ferrari 250 entered 1962 in Le Mans by NART (Chassis 3223)
Thank you guys.
These pictures confirm what I thought about the chassis #3387GT racing in Daytona (no heating ducts, the indicators underneath the head lights and the fuel insertion system moved into the rear window). The newer pictures mostly show the Sebring (#24) setup from 1962 with the later changed front. I ordererd the Fujimi kit and will try to get the major and obvious details right. Robert

Re: Reference on the Ferrari 250 entered 1962 in Le Mans by NART (Chassis 3223)
Researching a little more, it shows that Fujimi did the chassis that drove in Le Mans in 1962 but got all the details from the later changed car. They should have included the Sebring decals instead of the ones for Le Mans.
What will be wrong with the Fujimi-kit: - front heating ducts - indicators on the side of the body - wrong position of the fuel filler - wrong shape of the rear fenders - wrong size and shape of the rear wing - a heating duct in the rear window I will post further information when I receive the kit. Cheers Robert

Typical Fujimi make a kit and then as many derivatives that do not match reality.
An example might be a Porsche 911 RSR Le Mans 1994th Where is the added protective frame and decals otherwise it's street version

Re: Reference on the Ferrari 250 entered 1962 in Le Mans by NART (Chassis 3223)
Thanks again guys for your support and pictures. The last picture is really helpful determing the need of changes to get rear right.
When I receive the kit I will make pictures and try to show you changes I identified you will need to make to get half a replica of the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO (chassis #3387GT) with starting nr. 17 entered by NART in to 24 Hours of Le Mans (wow - what a title) painted Blue Gentiana Metallic. If you have some more useful information - go ahead and throw it at me. Robert
