Thanks Jeru,
you do not shorten the frame (chassis), it is supposed to be a bit longer, because at the back just under the number plate position, the chassis kind of like extends a bit further out than the rest of the body creating a small lip..... its hard to explain, maybe I have a pic somewhere.......

At least, that's what they look like through the windows. I could be wrong.
And I'm not really one to talk, my local slot car track runs a class for heavily modified Parma FCR chassis ....
Of course, I can't stand to run an ugly and non-distinct car, so my Matador wears a steel blue and dusty rose two tone paint job with three coats of clear. Though, honestly, it's been banged around so much by now that it's down to one clear coat.

Thanks for the comments,
its not a parma chassis, its a Plafif ecxel full race, these are pretty popular here in Germany, i enjo building scale racers that look good, the downside is that they dont always drive too well due to the weight
and that they can easily get damaged from crashes etc. ugly race cars makes sense, but nice lookers are much more fun!

Pardon me if this post in inapropriate.

Why use resin for a slot car body? In my experience resin is pretty brittle, won't it break if you crack up the car? Wouldn't it be better to use styrene or polycarbonate or that stuff they make RC bodies from? I might be way off base, here, I don't know.

Anyway, great work with the Ferarri! It looks fantastic! I don't think I could stand racing something that was so much work, but as they say, what's the fun of a car if you don't drive it? Keep 'em comin'!

Resin bodies are fairly common in 1:32nd scale slot cars and the 1:24th scale cars by Carrera are starting to get them, too.

Because there's no emphasis on chassis detail or interior detail with a slot car, resin bodies can be much thicker and more durable. They still crack with a hard enough hit, though. Styrene isn't particularly common except in the Carrera "scale" cars and certain classes (stock car classes in particular) and Lexan is the most common material. It's light, durable, and some companies (like Booth Machine and Lancer) make detailed Lexan bodies.

But, the detailed vacuform Lexan bodies are expensive (a ParmaPSE body is about 5 bucks, a Booth Machine is about $11.50) and as many slot tracks are now resorting to the hobby business for support, selling model kits for slot car bodies is a great moneymaker. So, styrene bodies are the new wave of slot car racing. And, as model bodies become more common, resin bodies are becoming common amongst the guys who want something "A little different".

so after a long pause heres a little more of what was involved in the creation of my modena slot car

Here are pics of the decaled body....

This pic shows the test fitting of the body to the slot chassis. You can see the scratch built front lip the alumnium wheels into which the resin inserts will be fixed after a lot of tweaking.

the wheels-

so, now to the cockpit. this was not easy, as the Tamiya cockpit is too big to fit between the body the chassis and thus underwent major moding. I had to reduce the depth to make space for the chassis and the engine. I made door panels using plastics sheets and tips from Alex (italian horses) also the back wall and the floor were made of really thin plastic sheet in order to save weight...

heres the chassis that will be used....

Here are cockpit and dash pics....

gotta take a break now

there is more to come.

are the pics too big???

Re: More 360 modenas ????

thanks .
a slot car is a car that is raced on plastic/wooden tracks, it differs from a RC car in the sense that it is actually guided by a slot /groove in the track and is also powered through metal rails situated left and right of the slot...... Carrera, Scalextrics , tyco are typical brands. The cars for sale on the market in scale 1/24 are not very detailed so building ones own cars an interesting option.

Helped?

Re: More 360 modenas ????

yes, thank you.
i think that'd be hella fun to do with an actual rc, although rc's tend to be bigger. the bodies for rc's are so crude.
