HELP Please Power Steering Pump 99 Windstar 3.8L
I had a lot of power steering groaning noise when turning the steering wheel. Fluid level was correct.
So yesterday took off the pump and started putting the pulley on the new one and the installer tool broke off inside. Back to Autozone but they were closed due to computer issues. Got the new one this morning and installed it with just the metal high pressure hose. Large rubber hose into a cup. Filled the fluid and turned the engine over a couple time and only had fluid come out the top of the reservoir. Put the car up and turned the wheels and a few bubbles came out. Tried with the car running a little and nothing coming out the rubber return hose. Turned the wheel while running tires on the ground and no power steering or fluid coming out the return hose. Is it probably a bad pump or maybe the high pressure hose. Any way to narrow it down? Thanks Steve |

Re: HELP Please Power Steering Pump 99 Windstar 3.8L
I replaced the pump and all it well again. Flushed the system which was very easy to do.
On a side note I could not get the pulley on the pump with the Autozone installer tool. Went to a local machine shop and they were able to put it on for $5.00. Well worth the money, although it took them awhile to get it on so I did not feel bad that I could not get it on. Steve |

When I had a shop they were $99.99 delivered a rebuilt so I'm sure they are around $200.00 at this time. With a couple of hours shop time you got a decent price.
