Symbol lit on dash not in manual
Hi. I have a 2014 Hyundai Sonata that periodically will not start unless put into neutral. When it doesn't start it shows a symbol that is not in the user manual. It looks like a red steering wheel with an exclamation point, also in red, to the right of it. Does anyone know what the symbol is?

A picture of the light would be helpful. From your description it sounds like maybe a reduced power/ limp mode warning light, or maybe a brake warning light, but I can't really narrow it down unless I see it.

Re: Symbol lit on dash not in manual
I don't think this is stopping you from starting your car. Some other issue.
Electronic Power Steering (EPS) Warning Light (if equipped) This warning light illuminates: • Once you set the ignition switch or the Engine Start/Stop button to the ON position. - It remains on until the engine is started. • When there is a malfunction with the EPS. In this case, have your vehicle inspected by an authorized HYUNDAI dealer.

Re: Symbol lit on dash not in manual
That's the symbol. It wasn't showing up under dashboard symbols. At a loss to why car intermittently not starting. When doesn't start sometimes will do so shortly after, others up to 1 hour & 45 minutes. After that I read manual pretty much cover to cover & found how to start it after 1st fail try, drop to neutral & push button again. Works great! No indicator lights come on when driving at all. Just hope not damaging car by my work around.

Thank you all for your great responses! If anyone has ideas on the start tissue, let me know. Also if you think I am damaging car by neutral start, I also want to know that!

Re: Symbol lit on dash not in manual
If that's what it is... I'm sorry, but I have to post the rhetorical question; what exactly was wrong with hydraulic power steering? The wheel is easy to turn, yet you still get feedback through the steering wheel, and I'm starting to question the reliability of electric power steering systems.
