Avoiding 'bad' strut mounts - is it possible?

ClassicRocJunkie (I think) recently posted the following common problem with Cavaliers:

Quote:
Common pre-mature problems;
1)Strut mounts going bad frequently
Does this refer to front or rear struts, or both?

I have a 1999 Cavalier sedan: is this susceptible to same?

What are the symptoms of strut mounts going 'bad'?

Can I take preventative action, such as bolting on top strut bars,
to prevent movement etc.?
