Sticking rear break 1990 legacy

Hello everyone!

I've got a 1990 Legacy that seems to have the rear pads sticking. When I apply the break, it makes a scraping sound and when I release, it goes down in volume but continues for a while but will eventually stop scraping -- until I hit the break again. It's a pretty mild scraping mind you (no gouging in the rotor).

Do I just need to replace the pads? Or is that a problem with the caliper..?

I'm not 100% but it seems to be coming out of the driver side only.

Any help will be hugely appreciated!

Re: Sticking rear break 1990 legacy

More than likely, one of the guide pins has rusted so badly, the caliper is pushing the brake pad onto your rotor on a angle.

Replace the calipers and pads. I had this problem on my 1998 outback on the front. One guide pin was seized and the other was not seized.

Yes, something isn't moving the way it should.

I know in my case, on any rear disk brake equipped vehicle I've owned, If I want the brakes to last more than ~20Kmi I need to disassemble and clean the pad slides and caliper pins YEARLY.

Especially on the rear brakes. Rears don't reach the full range of movement the fronts do and they catch all the dirty road spray, thus they corrode and seize up much faster than fronts would.
