Tamiya: Not very active in releasing new auto kits?

This may have been discussed before, or maybe I am just out of the loop...

I realized that they have been busy re-issuing many of the old molds, but not seeing new models.

Yes, they are releasing new kits now and then, but not at the speed of other companies.

I am generally interested in any news or topic regarding Tamiya about how they are doing: I am curious to know if they are planning anything special? Or they are just suffering to get by financially?

The new NISMO 350Z is probably the latest kit I can think of from Tamiya...

On September 8th, Tamiya announced that it'll try to boost its R/C business. So that's where the money is being spent. I'd be surprised if Tamiya skips R35 GT-R (which I'm pretty sure they won't), but I don't expect much from Tamiya, at least for now.

What about Focus WRC 2006/2007??? Isn't ANY manufacturer interested on doing that? There was some speculation in a finnish forum that Tamiya would be doing it, but it sounded like a rumour to me. Anyone know?

I think Heller has some agreement to do the Citroens, but C4 isn't still available.

Re: Tamiya: Not very active in releasing new auto kits?

They gotta make the new Subaru STI (2008) model, a rally car of it and the New Mitsubishi EVO X as long as tamiya makes those I will die a happy man, wouldn't mind seeing them make the new Audi R8 either

Re: Tamiya: Not very active in releasing new auto kits?

according to my LHS owner who has just recently returned from the States where he had a meeting with the North American US supplier for Tamiya **apparently** the cost of licensing liveried cars is going through the roof because of the president that our beloved and now hated Goodyear has set.

Because the Big T produce such high volumes it is making it less and less viable to produce these kits because of spiralling licensing demands from the down right greedy sponsors of the cars we are desperate to model - smaller run companies (most of the multimedia kits we see) are not affected by it as there production runs are much smaller.

Without wishing to sound downbeat, I think the future of Tamiya and any other of the big model manufacturers in producing liveried cars such as WRC, F1 etc is very much in the balance at this time. I can only see street versions of the cars being a viable option. I find it disgusting to be honest as Im sure many of you do, but that wont change Goodyear's mind Im sure.

Again another sign of the bankrupcy of our society. Before this bankrupcy, engineers tend to innovate, come up with smart industrial solutions for almost everything. Including car design etc. What we see more and more today is lazy engineering - called by even smarter guys as "branding" - where engineers just copy over and over again what they did. Think Audi, BMW and Volvo to name just a few.

What I mean is, is that engineers nowadays have gotten so bored, lazy and uninspired, that companies don't make money from their products anymore alone, but also will send out bills for anything that has their name on. This leads us to the problem we have as car model builders...

Furthermore there is this believe inside companies that always should make more and more and more profit. This is in the long run not sustainable, we all know that, and this whole licensing idiocraty is just a poor effort of them to get more money.

Bankrupt is what we are.

Will start making military airplane kits again. There you don't have all these issues.

Re: Tamiya: Not very active in releasing new auto kits?

I just wish they would stop making race cars with metal underbodies. The suspension/brake details are laughable and the opposite of what I expect from Tamiya.

The price keeps going up, but the details are being short-cut out of the engineering.
