Italeri Mercedes Benz 540K

This newly reissued Italeri Mercedes 540K debuted at our Atlanta NNL in November, and is reviewed in the latest Scale Auto (Feb. '09 issue).

The kit is a glorified curbside, while it has an engine it's simplified and the hood is molded integrally with the cowl, making a working hood or opening hood would be a chore, and detailing the engine beyond OOB would be somewhat necessary.

It went together quite well; the body sides are separate making a 2-tone easy, though you have to be careful gluing the upper body to the sides. It can also be built with the top down, with the side windows up or down. This model was much easier to assemble than the Lindberg Bugatti Royale just before building this; parts fit is better as are the instructions.

A kit few of us have ever seen finished in such a clean manner.
Good job, mate!

You've been really busy Bob! Lol...making free models for the mag. What year is this model supposed to represent? No chromey wire wheels? Or did you just paint them. Keep up the great work as always.

Thanks, I only build 'em if I want to

This 540K is from 1936. They came with painted wheels. The kit was molded in a vile dark brown with yellow side panels and wheels. I attempted to recreate the restored version of the car owned by Mercedes, but my blue color is darker. Still a lot better than brown and yellow.

No, but you don't even want to know where you could find a color sample
