vg30 turbo swap ???
im buying a 72 510 this weekend and i'm going to go vg30 but i want to run the turbo one but alot of people say it wont fit. why is that and also a guy in town has one his name is micheal spreadbury you can look it up on the web under the strutless wonder and he has all 90 rx7 turbo II suspension but i was looking at it and he had stuffed in there like an 89 300zx turbo motor and thats what i want cause i want the biggest bang for my buck mainly i want like a 13 second car, any other ideas that will mount up to the potential of the vg30 no v-8's just nissan motors no rotaries <--- hate them thanks for the input

since the 510 is so light it should be able to run 13s relatively easily. If my math is a right and a 3300lb, 300hp, AWD, WRX sti can run 13s then why can't a 2200lb, 210hp, RWD, 510 run 13s. And getting 200+hp into a 510 shouldn't be that hard, install an L20B an put a KA24 head on (not sure, but I've heard it goes onto the L20B block) then install a small turbo, from say an Eclipse or some other roughly 2L turbo import. With these mods you should be easily above 200hp. The only hard parts would be the totally custom turbo plumbing on both sides of the turbo, and getting the power to the ground

Re: vg30 turbo swap ???
Hell yes you can!! it takes a little massaging.
Michael Spreadbury is the man!! a few years back he helped me with a lot of issues I had when I did my VG30 swap. talk to him, I am sure he will help you. look on the dimequarterly site, there might be some others help give you advice. Michael was more than willing to give adivce. you can use the conversion kit for it. I cannot remember the name of the company but I think for around a grand you will get engine mounts and tranny mount, and a nice hammer head style oil pan. if you are interested I can find the info for you. if you do go turbo, you will probably have to cut on the fire wall or you might have to move the engine foward some. who ever told you that you could not is crap. I have seen a twin turbo in a 510, and a V8 stuffed in one also... you can make anything happen the sky is the limit... |

Re: Re: vg30 turbo swap ???
you can run an SR20DET in it, you can run many different engines. it is just making it work. you can also use a Subaru WRX LSD in it. it bolts right up, there is a special tool you will need to take out part of drive shaft, once that is open put the Datun's pieces in its place. not too hard. go to www.dimequarterly.tierranet.com and someone on there put a post on telling you how to do it. it is not tough to do... also go big brakes on the front - 280ZX, if you do that get bump steer spacers.
