260 MPH Salleen S7
Hey I read here the 2006 Salleen S7 can reach 260 MPH. Is this true? I agree! I think it's possible.
http://www.forbes.com/2005/11/23/fas...rtner=netscape < previous | slower | stop | faster | next > The Fastest American Cars No. 2 Saleen S7 Twin Turbo Base Price: $555,000 Top Speed: 240 to 260 mph (estimated) About as fast and pricey as a car can be (any car, not just an American one), Saleen's S7 has been around for enough years to become an icon in the auto world, even if it may not have widespread public exposure. Recently overhauled, the S7 now features a 750-hp V-8. |

The 2006 S7 Twin Turbo is now available with a 1,000 hp option which would likely allow a top speed of 260 mph.
The 750 hp S7 TT likely has a top speed of 235 mph. The new TT had a higher trap speed in a one mile acceleration test by Road & Track (September 2005) than a Lola Champ Car with 800 hp. The Champ Car weighs just 1,560 pounds. "Two other amazing stats: The Champ Car hits 150 mph in only 8.6 sec., and averages nearly 150 mph for the whole mile. If another car hits the starting line already at that speed and keeps it there, the Champ Car, from a standing start, will catch it by the end of the mile! Also, Rocketsports' own data show that when Glock lets off the throttle after the run, the Lola experiences nearly 1g of deceleration, close to the force a typical production car reaches in panic braking." http://www.roadandtrack.com/article....page_number=14 |

I got the 1,000 hp option from the following link:
http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/news/62...on_veyron.html The 235 mph top speed for the 2005 model is from the September 2005 issue of Road & Track. |

Kool and even if you can't I'm sure you can add stuff to it to make it go faster.

It weighs close to 1,000 pounds less than the Veyron.

Re: 260 MPH Salleen S7
no but it affects top speed and handling, the veyron is a fat, poorly designed car. if they had gone about desining it properly, they could've achieved so much more. they designed the look of it, then made the engine to achieve the goals they wanted, 1000hp and 250mph. had they made it more aerodynamic and done things properly, like oh... the Mclaren F1, the veyron would have been much, much, faster and handles alot better. I know it's an incredibly quick and fast car (0-60 in 2.3 or 2.6 seconds) and it outhandles alot of cars, not counting supercars, but for the price you aren't getting much. the Mclaren F1 was properly designed, everything was purpose built, it's comfortable, the body was aerodynamic, it was incredibly light, and it costed ~$1,000,000. the veyron wasn't and it costs ~$1,250,000. veyron rant over.
The audi R8 couldn't achieve 260mph on pump gas unless you redesigned the body to make it very aerodynamic, got a larger, more powerful, engine, got different tires, basically changed the entire car into a supercar, then you MIGHT get it to 260mph. on the stock body you wouldn't have a chance in hell. as for that 260mph s7, I can believe it, they have really improved this car lately and have increased aerodynamic efficiency and downforce as well as bumping the horsepower. if it does have that 1000hp option it would be entirely possible since the veyron is estimated at 252mph with 1001hp (850 or something sae hp) and crappy aerodynamics. |

Re: 260 MPH Salleen S7
how many mclarens have you sat in to know how comfortable they are? while the same can be said about the veyron, i've read in multiple magazines that it's quite luxurious on the inside, and extremely aerodynamic (i don't know where you got that idea that it wasn't....have you looked at that thing?). as for the weight, you have to understand that the type of buyer that bugatti is tailoring to doesn't care about the weight. ultra-rich, self indulgent billionares don't want some hard-core, stripped down supercar. they wouldn't know how to drive one anyway. they just want the most expensive, most exclusive, most outrageous car that money can buy, and that's what the bugatti is.
what i'd really like to know more about is that SSC Ultimate Aero, that thing looks insane |

Re: 260 MPH Salleen S7
I've read a few articles that said that the bugatti wasn't very aerodynamic. and as for the mclaren, i didn't mean comfortable compared to a normal car, i meant compared to a supercar, sorry about that. the bugatti doess what it was meant to do but it could have been better had they gone a different path, it could have achieved what they wanted and more.

Re: 260 MPH Salleen S7
Comparing the Mclaren and the buagatti is alittle wierd b/c you have do way differnet staring points. The Mclaren was meant to be a sports car from the start. The bugatti had to start from luxery sport then build around that to there top speed. As for top speeds i don't believe it until i see it do it.
