RR Silver Cloud 3

It is my dream car

Does anyone know what a good one costs?
Typical problems, maintanance costs?

Greetings, George

Greetings, George
I can't speak for European prices, but in the US, I would expect to pay about $35K for one in good condition. This would be about 25,500 EUR (I don't know how to make the EUR sign). If you would buy one from the US, expect to pay 2,000 or so EUR for shipping. I have NO idea on Grecian import duties. Cars made for the US are Left Hand Drive. Right Hand Drive cars go for about 25% or so less.

As far as problems, the electrical system comes to mind first. In the US, it is no problem to get the transmission fixed since it is a GM Hydramatic.
Heres a link you may find useful. You can use 63031 as the zip code.

Talking Big thanks!

I just took a ride in the net!

I only found prices. In Europe a good SCIII is around 30k€, the coachbuilt cara cost easily the double!

I read somehwere read that the aircondition could cause overheating in city traffic
Import in GR is not clear. Importing a historical car isn't the same as importing a new one, since you get specific number plates.

Thanks, George!

My pleasure. Given the strong Euro, you may want to buy a US car and then import it. As far as the A/C, the problems may be in the water pump and radiator. If these are in good condition, it should be OK. If not, there are plenty of electric fans that can keep things cool.

The SCIII is a dream for me and my father!

In GR I haven't seen one, only in Germany where I've lived for the past two years!

We'll perhaps find one that needs a bit of work to bring it back to shape. It will be a fun car for the weekends. For the time beeing it is not allowed from our budget, but it is in our targets!
Propably a standard salloon!

Shopping in US is a bit difficult, when yo have no connections there...
€uro helps but how do we know what we get, can you find someone to check it etc?!

(The Euro symbol is intergraded in the latest keyboards here! )

Do you know what's up with Conolly leathers? I 've heard they' ve closed
Do they still exist with other management?RR was a standard customer for them!

Silver Clouds are definately nice! I've put a picture of my old one at the end of this message. It was a Cloud II. The standard saloon is VERY nice. Just don't ride in the back EVER! Once you do, you'll never want to drive again.
As far as buying in the US, anytime you buy a car via the internet or whatever, it is risky. If you deal with a reputable dealer, the chances of success are much higher. Perhaps you could ask for references. I bought mine from a guy in California via Ebay. It had some problems, but all in all was pretty good. I'm sure shipping it over seas would not have been a problem. I haven't heard anything about Conolly.

Thanks. I sold it for $22,000, took a loss, but . . . .
An SCIII cab would set you back about $125,000 or more.

A normal saloon SC3 would be more than enough!

A cab would be great to cruise slowly on a coastal road with good company, but will remain more than a dream!

Well, if I win enough money in the lottery, I guess I'll have to ship one over.

That would be very kind of you for your "poor" friend in GR!

Airconditioning was standard in SC3 or an extra option? AC was at first available in SC2 as option. I think all SC3 I saw in the internet from California had one.

I'm not sure, but I think A/C was an option. I believe it became standard with the Silver Shadow. If I was to be buying an SC 3 (and hopefully I will be buying one for you ), I would ask if it had A/C from the factory.

With RR cars it was always possible to do anything on the car. It would surprise me, if one car was a couple of years later with original A/C fitted, because the owner regreted driving for example without airconditioning the first summer under the hot californean summer
The Touring Limo you've posted was converted from left to right hand drive!

P.S I am thinking that A/C should be an unbelievable luxury that time
I don't know any cars at that time, where something like that was available

A/C was somewhat common in US cars. My parents had a 1964 Chevrolet Impala with factory air. Most of the American luxury models had it available, if not standard. Lincoln even offered it on their 4 door convertible in 1961-1967! The first car with REAL A/C was the 1941 (or 1942) Packard. Other cars had cooling, but it used ice. I think the reason for A/C in the US is that we have virtually all climates here. It gets over 42 degrees C in Arizona almost every day from May until November. Where I live (St. Louis, Missouri), the temperature can go from -10 in the winter to +42 C in the summer with humidity approaching 90%.
