Re: The worst cars ever made?

That was a stupid list. First of all, the Gremlin was way worse than the Pacer, yet I didn't see it on the list.
Secondly, they listed the Trabant (though they didn't name any models!) and like most of the people who are critical of the little East German auto, they can't actually think of anything wrong with it!
Then of course, the Yugo is in the top ranking (a U.S. Yugo isn't even pictured) despite the fact that 80% of Yugo owners were perfectly happy with their car, and reliability wise the Yugo beats many other car makers, such as Volvo, etc.

And dauphine criticized for being slow? Like a 50's VW beetle was any faster? They'd probably praise the beetle for being slow, yet they blast the Dauphine, at least it had a REAL TRUNK unlike the beetle, and it had four doors.

And Vega's 90hp was low?

Well what else would you expect from those who know nothing about cars whatsoever?

Re: The worst cars ever made?

Maybe uglier, but the Gremilin was less well made, more dangerous, and although smaller than the Pacer, couldn't deliver more MPG! So, aside from looks, the Gremlin was worse.

Do they even have to list whats wrong with the trabant? Why do I have do this?

1. Trabants body style has basically remained unchanged for well over 20 over years, along with the drivetrain.

2. Because of the mostly plastic body construction, Trabants cannot be properly disposed of in most of the countries that use them (including the former Soviet Union and it Satellite Nation-states, and most of East Germany)

3. Trabants are famous for belching purple-bluish tinted smoke from their crude mostly 2 cycle engines, and are a MAJOR pollution hazard (see above)

4. Their plain fucking ugly!

I agree with the Gremlin statement. Pacer's were actually not that bad. they had extremely good visibility because of the flat beltline (of course, all that glass caused for some serious injuries in crashes)

Gremlins literally rusted in front of their owners and had electrical problems which gave it unique properties, such as the ability to catch on fire during idle...that happened to my mom, and is why we owned 5 generations of Hondas...
In my opinion, they should have listed the Pinto higher. The Pinto's transmission had a tendency to shift from park to reverse when unmanned (especially when parked on an incline) and everyone knows what happens when you rear end a pinto...

And people applaud the Mini, and the VW beetle for the same reason!

I hear no complaints about Corvettes not disintegrating! Besides it's a good thing, for those who own the, no rust.

Not so much of a Pollution hazard as you might think, this is only an increasin hydrocarbon emissions, and not anything else. In fact, greenhouse gas emissions are directly correlated to how much fuel an engine burn, and therefore the Trabant being as efficient as it is, is actually cleaner than some of today's fuel hogs.

Oh, and the VW beetle, and Mini aren't? Certainly they're not as ugly as the Citroen 2cv, and I don't hear complaints there.

Experiences unique to owning a product of AMC.

80% satisfied? Show me one person willing to admit they owned a Yugo.

Yugo beats Volvo in realiability!! Pulease, show me the numbers! Who is still around today and touted as one of the safest cars on the road? It's not Yugo.

Re: Re: Re: The worst cars ever made?

I own (or rather owned) a Yugo. I liked it alot. Most of the people who criticize them have never owned one, and have no idea what they're talking about. As to the reliability, the statistics were provided by the "Used Car Reliability Guide" (exact title?) which rated a cars reliability using information from the NHTSA, and Yugo scored in the second to best category for reliability.

Also, so far as I can remember, Sweden didn't have a civil war in the early 90's, and Volvo's factories weren't bombed by NATO - one reason that Volvo is still here, and Yugo isn't.
