Whats wrong with my truck?

I have no clue what could be wrong with my truck..heres some of the "symptoms".

It only happens sometimes...very randomly...in all different conditions so i know its not the cold, or the rain, or the heat. But when i start it up it wont start or it will start and shut off real quick...the only way to keep the truck on is to keep it at around 1500 RPMS and the moment you let of it at a stop sign or anything it will shut off unless you hold the gas and the brake at the same time...

Ive read the book and used the diagnostic tool on it...the only thing that comes up is the oxygen sensor...but that was replaced like a year ago. It doesnt seem to be the starter either. Idk but its really starting to bug me...i cant really take it in either because it only happens sometimes and they would charge me just to tell me nothings wrong.

By the way its a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500

Re: Whats wrong with my truck?

Whack the EGR valve with the handle of a screwdriver. If it changes or helps, you need a new one. EGR valves get gunked up and sometimes stick open. They're only supposed to be open during part-throttle conditions, but if its stuck open when trying to idle, it will cause trouble.

Diagnostic codes can be tricky. For instance, if the EGR is stuck open it will cause the O2 sensor to get a funny reading and it might be causing the code. I tried forever to chase down an O2 code once and it ended up being the MAF sensor.
