Unhappy 1995 Jimmy misfires when cold

My Jimmy has the 4.3L CPI. I think my injector spider is bad, but I want to get second opinions on it.

Symptoms:
SES Code P0113 (Intake Air Temp Sensor, High Input) --Replaced Sensor, but that didnt fix the problem...going to put it back on the modus on Monday.

Misfires and has a Sulfur smell, usually when left to warm up in the morning.

SES Light blinks up to about 2000rpm then goes solid. Begins blinking again at stop lights (Idle).

--------
In the last year and a half i have replaced distributor cap, rotor, plug wires, plugs, egr valve(with Kleen Screen to prevent further build up), IAT sensor.

I am asking for an opinion on this because it seems to only misfire when it's cold (below 32 degrees Fahrenheit), and that does not seem consistant with most CPI injector issues.

Any ideas?

First thing you need to fix the air intake sensor problem.

Like see what the air intake sensor is reading on modus cold and warm and hot.
Make sure it is reading close to actual air intake degrees.
Post back what it reads out cold warm and hot.

Keeping in mind that i know very little about fuel injected engine parts, it kind of sounds like water in the fuel is freezing and possibly causing the injector(s) or fuel line(s) to clog. I've had it happen with carbeurated engines. Try a GOOD gas treatment/fuel system cleaner like Sea Foam or HEET. Could be a $5 fix.. I'm just sayin'..

Re: 1995 Jimmy misfires when cold

MT, I replaced the sensor Friday. I don't have access to a scanner at my house, so i'll have to wait and check them on the modus tomorrow.

Assuming I've resolved the IAT sensor problem, what should i check next??

Any unmetered air leaks can confused the IAT sensor!

Well, it also has a fairly new intake hose (OEM, nothing's been changed) if that is what you are implying?

A smoke test will check the PCV, EGR, and Intake for unmetered air leaks.
I found a smoke test video, see http://www.youtube.com serch ''Auto smoke test''

When checking for vacuum leaks, I like using the brake booster hose for smoke, and plasic for blocking the air filter.

See what the scanner picks up.
Watch and check all readings for specs and for any codes or other codes.

You may need to clear old codes and recheck.

If still misfiring work on that end,

Re: 1995 Jimmy misfires when cold

LOL - I wonder if you could use a Black + Mild cigar, for a smoke test!

1) Remove air filter
2) Put plastic warp around filter.
3) Install air filter, you don't want smoke coming out of the air box during test.
4) disconnect the vacuum hose going to the brake booster.
5) Light a cigar
6) Slowly blow smoke into the intake booster hose, than plug with thumb.
7) Watch for smoke leakage.

Don't forget to remove plastic from the air filter when done.

Re: 1995 Jimmy misfires when cold

I actually ended up getting an '06 Toyota Matrix this week, but I still want to fix poor old jimmy because I might be selling it to a friend...

Alright, I haven't done the smoke test yet as has been suggested. I did check the codes again on the modis, and there were 2 other codes i didn't see the first time(just learning how to use it haha)....they are:

P0300(Random/Multiple Misfire) and
P1133(Insufficient Switching - Oxygen Sensor Bank 1)

I'll do the smoke test before I replace anything, but if my intake is all good what is my next step? replace o2 sensor?

Re: 1995 Jimmy misfires when cold

Miss fire can overload 02 sensor.
Work on the missfire first.
Are you using good ac plugs and tune up stuff?
Can you feel the engine miss under load or at idle?

Good hot spark to all plugs?
Are all plugs firing good?
Good fuel pressure?
Is it the old style dist cap or the newer flat top dist?
What engine code?
