Here's a downloadable 2001 service manual.
The download is kinda slow but worth the wait. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/42304/2001DodgeRam.pdf Check page 402 for water pump info.

Re: 00 5.2 Ram 1500 Water pump issues
ok ill read it
but i did get it off today i used a vise grip clamped to the pully and had the big adjustable on the nut and i hit the adjustable till the thing moved power built company doesnt make a tool for a dodge one as this stupid idea of holding a screw driver behind is dumb but here is question i put the new one on put gasket maker on both sides of the gasket paper and put it on put lock tight on the bolts and tightedn them to 20 pounds i add the coolant and i notice pump leaking why would it leak so i started up truck and let it run for a bit and it sealed itself for now i going to see tommorow if it leaked more but letting it run seals it? did i do something wrong? and the book says i need 18 liters of coolant yet i added liike a jug and 3/4s with some water and it filled it thats no where near 18 liters so how much does it really hold? |

Re: 00 5.2 Ram 1500 Water pump issues
i see what this book you sent shows its a special tool that goes into the holes of the pully holes
i dunno why the hayes book never talked about that is it hard to do the timing chain when i reach 200k as i know the sunfire i worked on it blew and i did the repair but the head valves wrecked so it would be 500 bucks to fix so for this truck i going to change it before she blows |

18 liters is if you drain every bit of coolant out of the engine, radiator etc.

The pdf book is a FSM, I follow it on differences.
The Haynes book #30041 is a very good general maintenance manual...I refer to mine regular.

Factory Service Manual
You need to tighten that fan to spec or call around and have it tightened to spec.
