1995 325i auto transmission problem
My 1995 325i I'm guessing has a 5 speed transmission will not go when put into gear. What I mean is that I have to rev the motor to 2000 RPMs to get the car moving. I can put the pedal to the floor and it will not go over 2600 and the car is not going very fast at all.
How do you check the transmission fluid on an automatic BMW? I also had a bad mishap with the motor oil just before the transmission began to act funny. I'm not sure if it is related or not. What type of transmission fluid does a 325i take?

Re: 1995 325i auto transmission problem
Hey dude, what's up.
Typically, they use Dexron III. But check the ID plate on the side of the tranny, and also check if there's a sticker somewhere on the sump pan, which may indicate that a different fluid was used. Auto tranny is a bitch since there's no dipstick. You basically have to open the fill plug and add fluid till it spills out of the hole. BUT- this needs to be done while the fluid temperature is between 86-131 degrees F . . . this is very critical. Warm up the drivetrain by running the engine beforehand, and shift through all the gears several times. The engine should be running and the tranny in Neutral while you perform the procedure. Good luck, man. Hopefully that's all your problem is |
