hesitation on starting
My daughter's 97 6 cyl Malibu has started hesitating when you start it. It basically acts like its going to die when you start to put it in drive, you put it back in park give it some gas and and give it time, and you are good to go. No warning lights come on. We have put fuel injector cleaner in and spark plugs, but it continues to happen more frequently. Bad coil maybe? Any ideas?

Re: hesitation on starting
Idle Air Control(IAC) or Throttle Position Sensor(TPS) perhaps. Check the inside of the throttle body for excessive carbon build up. The IAC may need to be cleaned or replaced.

Re: hesitation on starting
Wouldn't those things make a code/check engine light? There are no warning lights. Bad coil, dirty fuel injector or bad spark plug wire? It's just an intermittent problem right now - not major unless it gets worse.

Re: hesitation on starting
I've had to replace both of those on cars with no light on. But im not absolutely positive on weather the light has to be on when the IAC or TPS is bad. When I first read your post I was thinking about the EGR but whenever I had a bad one, the check engine light was always on so im not super positive on that one either but it doesnt cost any money to check so.....
I've never seen a bad coil make a car hesitate like that but missfire like crazy and foul out the same spark plugs over and over. As far as the injectors go, you can test them to see if they're working properly(you can also hear them clicking) and also check the fuel pressure to see if it fluctuates.
