4 channel amp??

Hey everyone.

Well, too start off, I've got a Sony Mobile ES XM-7547 (http://www.carreview.com/mfr/sony-st...5_1806crx.aspx) , and I don't understand the meaning behind the four channels stuff. Ive got the amp hooked to two Alpine Type R 12's, the two ohm edition, and they just dont seem as loud as they should be. The power is ranked as so...
Max. Power Output* (4Ohms)
- 4-Channel: 180W x 4
- 3-Channel: 180W x 2 + 600W
- 2-Channel: 600W x 2
Rated Power Output (4Ohms)
- 4-Channel: 75W x 4
- 3-Channel: 75W x 2 + 300W
- 2-Channel: 300W x 2

Im new to car audio, so Im trying to learn. My question is, since I dont understand the channels thing, how can I set up my amp to get the most power to my subs, specifically that 300W x 2 zone?

Re: 4 channel amp??

that amp u got aint no good for those speakers... u need bigger power... that amp is mainly used for door speakers or 6x9's or somthing... those speakers take 500 rms and 1500 max... and ur using like 150-200... go check out hifonics amps... thats what i did...

Re: 4 channel amp??

there are plenty of amp makers around .... class D amps typically give you a lot more watts per dollar.

Re: 4 channel amp??

And pretend that "peak power" doesnt even exist. Always go by RMS. for two type R's you should have at least 500w each. So find a new class D amp that puts out at least 1000w or so.

Re: 4 channel amp??

alright thanks a lot guys, im pretty much stuck with this amp for now considering i just dropped a decent amount of money on the subs. and i think ive established that no matter where i hook up the subs on the amp, like on any channel, its still gonna get the same power, right?

Re: 4 channel amp??

try and bridge the front two channels to power one sub, and the rear 2 channels for the other sub. Hope the amp will handle the load.

Re: 4 channel amp??

Re: 4 channel amp??

bridging is when you connect the left and right channels of an amp together to produce one larger amp channel.

Re: 4 channel amp??

OMG .... I just had a nightmare. READ the instruction manual, it will tell you how to bridge the amp, if possible. All I could see was someone putting both L&R +'s together and both L&R -'s together from the amp outputs.

Re: 4 channel amp??

i was given the amp from a friend for free, had to get it repaired, which i did, so no manual to read. i took it to a local audio shop and they looked at it for me and set everything up nice, so im pretty sure i got it now. however before i took it there, i noticed that the positive and negative of one channel werent going to the corresponding ones on the speaker, so low and behold i was running off one sub, and the other was just vibrating. remind me never to go to that person again.

If ur using this amp... ur only pushing the alpines 1/3 of there potential. Even if u max the amp out thats all u get... it just depends on how loud u wanna go...
