Tires on stock 16" Rims

Anyone know or have any recomendations for the biggest(mud/all season) tires I can fit on my 99 4X4? I have 245/75/16's now and I think those are the stock size. Thanks!

99 Ram 1500 4X4 5.2

Shop around and get prices.Stay away from Goodyear Wranglers, they are junk and do not last very well.

Re: Tires on stock 16" Rims

some people say the biggest you can fit without rubbing is 285/75R16. BUT then there are people that run 285/75R16s. I happen to be running the 285s on mine right now I don't notice any rubbing. Don't forget to have your computer upgraded if you get bigger tires it will help out on your gas mileage. Also like said above deifnatley shop around and get what you want. A lot of people love running BFGoodrich tires but they can be expensive. I'm sorry but I can't afford $200 a tire plus monting and balancing. So I had to go cheaper with Sport Kings.

Re: Tires on stock 16" Rims

I just put Dayton Timberline A/T's on my 01, 1500. 285/75/16 and they are not rubbing. The speedometer is off a couple miles per hour, that's one thing you'll have to watch with the bigger tires.

Didn't know about the computer upgrade/gas mileage? What's that all about?

Re: Tires on stock 16" Rims

all the upgrade does is fix your speedometer to read the proper speed and proper mileage. When you get bigger tires not only is your speed off but everything else is as well. RPMs, Miles, Speed. So if you go in and tell the computer what size tires you got it fixes that and puts down the actual miles you have driven not the miles it thinks you have driven. All it does is count the revolutions of your tire to get mileage. The revolutions per mile for a 245/75R16 is 662. and for a 285/75R16 it is 614 that is a difference of about 8%. So everything is going to be off by 8%. Oh if you do get your computer reprogrammed you will need to know the Revolutions per mile for your tire size if it is bigger than 265/75R16 b/c dodge never put in tire sizes bigger than that in the computer. and I already gave you the 285 above ;-).

Re: Tires on stock 16" Rims

Next time I buy tires I'm going to put 255/70/16's on the back. They're about the same height as the 245/75's, but the width should look good.

Wranglers are junk? I still have the original steering tires my '97 came with from the factory. They have no traction or anything but mine have been good to me on both trucks, all the tread is more or less there. If you spin them off they won't last long.

My buddy put some kind of Sumitomo tires on his truck and I thought they looked pretty good.
