rear disk brakes... does anyone know?

2005 Malibu LS 3.5L (Epsilon Body) with rear disk brakes.

Does anyone know if the rear disk brake pads have the wear indicators just like the front pads?

Car started making an intermitent low pitch whistle noise (sounds like an old steam locomotive wistle, just really low muffled) but it only does it while turning sharply on right turns. It doesn't come on while turning left or driving straight.

At first I suspected the fuel pump but I'm not sure. I've owned the car since 2008 and never replaced the rear brakes, so it might be time!

Yes, OEM pads have brake wear indicators.

Re: rear disk brakes... does anyone know?

Thank you gmtech1, I'll start by replacing the rear pads (front pads were done a little over 2 years ago) and see if the noise goes away!

I really hope is not the fuel pump, the lowest I found for a quality name brand was almost $300... YIKESSS!!!

I highly recommend going with an OEM pump if thats where this takes you. Very high failure rate with some of the aftermarket brands. Especially Airtex. Fuel pumps always seem to crap out when ya got a full tank!

Yep... knew that already, but thanks for the info. I'll either go ACDelco, Carter or Delphi.

Re: rear disk brakes... does anyone know?

Update:

Got the rear brake pads replaced Friday and noise is gone. The left rear wear indicator was the one rubbing on the disc making the noise intermitenly. Funny how the noise is completely different to what the front pads make when they wear out!

I think is due to the lengh of the metal tab coming out the pad and the way it curves like a long "U" shape before it reaches the disc brake making more of a harmonic sound instead of the screetching noise that comes out the front pads.

From my seating position while driving, the noise felt more like it was coming from the center of the rear axle, making me think it was the fuel pump going bad!

without wanting to hijack this thread, just a comment that my motorcycle fuel pump is $475. Over and out.
