2011 legacy subwoofer

hello everyone, this is my first post in the subaru forums, but ive been an active member in the Pontiac Grand Prix forums for a few years now. i recently traded in my 97 Grand prix GTP for a 2011 Legacy 2.5i. ive noticed that subaru offers a subwoofer that plugs in underneath the drivers seat...my question is: does anybody know if the wires for the sub (and integrated amp) are already run, and just awaiting connection to the sub, or if the wires must be run from the fuse center and radio. my car is a lease, so i can't be taking everything apart to upgrade the audio system, and i cant afford to have subaru put the sub in, so i was hoping it would be a very easy installation. if anyone knows, i would appreciate your input. thanks!

Re: 2011 legacy subwoofer

How are you enjoying the Subi compared to the old GTP?

Have you tried unbolting the seat and having a quick look?
It's only four bolts, and you should be able to see any extra connectors etc.

Re: 2011 legacy subwoofer

not yet. i figured id ask before i tried. however, upon inspection, i did notice a 3-wire plug that was not attached to anything. i was hoping that this was for a subwoofer, but i figured it could be for heated seats or something else.

and theres some good and bad. its VERY nice to drive a new car, and its obviously in better shape, but i truly miss the power from my GTP and the audio system that i had in it. i will always love the GTP, being my first car and all. the legacy is deffinately a nice car though

You never forget your first car!

One of the other mods started a thread about it here: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul....php?t=1068363

I would imagine a sub would have some pretty heavy duty wiring going to it, unless it has a built in amp?

Re: 2011 legacy subwoofer

the wires appear to be about 12 gauge, although i didnt look too hard. considering the fact that the subwoofer is rather small (8" i think), i dont think it would need much heavier wiring. and yes, the amp in integrated. ill take another look tomorrow, and post pics of the wires if youd like to see what im talking about

I've just moved this thread to the Car Audio forum.
One of the mods here, PaulD, knows way more about these things than most people

Re: 2011 legacy subwoofer

Most cars do have the wiring for any options, my car has all the wiring for the heated seats because they are standard in Canadian models. A 100-200 watt class D amp does not require a lot of size or power, 12 Ga should be plenty. You might be able to find one of these in a junk yard around you - the guys might not even know it's there.

Re: 2011 legacy subwoofer

Anyway of testing the wiring to see if it is hooked up to the head unit for a sub?

Re: 2011 legacy subwoofer

You would have to know the pinout of the connector. You could actually wire a small amp and sub to it to verify before actually purchasing anything.
