Can you run dual exhaust on a 88 model with TBI

I was wondering if you can change over to duals with glasspacks and just do away with the converter etc. and plug the rubber and metal hoses running to it etc. without causing a problem to the computer system and any of the sensors. I was just considering using one of the custom fit systems from JC Whitney and installing it myself on my 88 Ram 4X4. Has anyone else done this modification? What problems did you encounter?

It is a 88 Dodge 1/2 TON
4X4, 318, TBI

Thumbs down

of course you can BUT your asking for trouble, your computer reads the amount of oxygen in your exhaust through your o2 sensors, therby telling your fuel system what to do as in enrichen or lean out fuel system.if you take away its eyes and ears it will just run super rich by default.the best way to go is a cat back system with duals that way.just did it to my 98 and it sounds good breathes better too

Wait- are we talking about an 88 or 98? If 88, any hoses can be plugged and the O2 sensor can easily be placed directly into the pipe as there is only one sensor, not a before-cat and after-cat system.

On that old of a truck you can have your pipes however you want, you don't need a converter. Just stick the sensor into the pipe.

It is an 88 model. What all would have to be modified with the computer system to do the duals?

Not a thing.. my Dodge is an 88 (see www.cardomain.com/id/bamadodgenmx) and I have true duals all the way with turbo mufflers and not cat. The existing sensor can be simply set into either of two or the one pipe itself, with no mods.
