That is what double-de-clutching is.
It is aimed at making shifts more accurate and easier on the transmission. Originally it was needed just to get the gears to engage as they did not have synchromesh. Given that a clutch is a foreign object to most americans, I am amazed that he has heard of this, unless he is into racing classics or something. Oh, and 2F2F wasnt great, but I dont think its fair to say it sucked, and the whole american domestic vs import hoohaa is just a bunch of little boys with no willies trying to look manly IMHO !!
