Re: Laser 917
Oh man, I remember those. An ancient 35 year old layout.....no interior room, windows don't open......horrendously claustrophobic.......if I recall, I simply did not fit in one.
Combine all that with the wonderful handling and speed of a clapped out Beetle chassis.......a dream car for sure. And now they have Boxter kits....... Why anyone would spend $$$ and time ruining a Boxster to put that fiberglass abortion on it is beyond me. |

It's best function is to park it in your driveway to show off to the neighbours. But actually driving it is a horrible experience. |

Re: Laser 917
If you want to see some Laser 917s in action, rent George Lucas' first movie "THX 1138". It has tunnel racing scenes supposedly shot in the San Francisco BART (subway) tunnels before the tracks were laid.
Set in the future, it had several kit cars in the driving sequences. I think at least one was a Laser 917. |

Re: Laser 917
Too bad people talk about or trash things they know little or nothing about,
While a Laser 917 isn't a mega dollar super car it is one of the best built VW based kit cars ever so any one who says they are not well built just doesn't know what they are talking about and to hate the style would mean you have to hate all the Can am racers, Granted a fat person doesn't fit too well but what super car does a fat person fit well into? I'm 6 foot 2 and fit great in my Laser If you solve your problems throwing money at them more power to ya, People into the replicas are generally people who cant afford the real deal I am one but short of the 200 MPH top end my laser will take the people at any show away from the mega dollar cars, My car has a full custom frame and will be getting a bigger engine one day so why not try to look like less of a braying jackass by talking about things you actually know something about, Cheers, P. |
