Unbelievable Ferrari-nose

Ferrari 2004B nose

When I look at that nose, I have to think about the serpent in Alien.

Re: Unbelievable Ferrari-nose

My first thought when I saw that was "hope it's only for the first 4 races!" Ugly, but I guess they should use it as long as it works, and I have no doubt in the Ferrari aerodynamicists.

Looking at the wing front on, it looks to have very little, if any direct downforce generating benefit. However it does look at though it may 'clean' the air going under the front wing and thus help this air move far better under the car and out through the rear diffuser.

This would have the affect of both increasing overall downforce and, as the air will be 'cleaner' (thus less turbulance) a reduction in drag. Allowing the air to flow better behind the front wing has been an area of intense development in the last few years. Williams' walrus nose last year was one such attempt, as is McLarens continuous development of the twin keel front suspension attachment points. As both a ferrari fan, and an avid follower of F1 aerodynamics, I will watch this develpment very closely.

To those who disagree with the looks and aesthetics of the nose, pretty is not always fastest! F1 history cares only for who was the fastest.

Re: Unbelievable Ferrari-nose

Hope it turns out better than bmw williams front end last year. So who do u think will challange Ferrari this year Bmw/Williams, Honda/BAR, Mclarne/Mercedes, Toyota??? I think BAR is getting better and better every year young drivers slowly gaining experience.

it looks as though they are trying to achieve the same thing as the big 'scoop' on the new BAR's front wing. this will certainly be interesting to watch.
