15000 rpm american V8!
Coates rotary valve heads eliminate all of the old valvetrain equipment and replace it with a system with only 2 moving parts. They flow up to three times more through the valves than standard heads. They make heads for the 5.0 that make it higher revving and more volumetrically effecient than virtually ANY import engine in existence. With a stock bottom end and these heads, a five oh made 450 horsepower at 5500. With a built bottom end ( i.e. forged crank, rods, pistons, balanced and blueprinted ) it turned, safely, at 14850 rpm. The same engine made 982 horsepower without forced induction. I want to know what everybody thinks. What you think they could do for racing, street, etc. Here's some pics:

I remember hearing about these for the first time 2 years ago or so. Guess they are finally getting the recognition they deserve.

I tell you what, you donate 15,000 to buy the heads, I'll donate 15,000 to buy the Maranello, and we'll call it even.

The faster something revs, the faster it fails. Also, I've learned never to trust the performance specs of a product published by the company.

When you increase rpm that much you must shorten the stroke. For 15000 rpm you will need a stroke of about 45 mm. Furthermore, based on the horsepower and rpm the VE has dropped with about 20%. A modern F1 engine does have a VE of around 120% at peak power, that will be at around 18000 rpm. I don't se how these rotary valves are supposed to increase that. |
