how come when ever i see a a 240SX with a turbo kit it always say they have a 300ZX twin turbo mass air flow sensor? or they write hacked maf. Any point to this?

Re: Z32 maf and turbo

It's a lot bigger than the stock MAF. "Hacking" your MAF is the cheap mans tuning. It enables you to run bigger injectors without using an S-AFC or another fuel tuning device. If you just added bigger injectors without allowing more air in then your car is going to be running pretty damn rich.

To hack a MAF, you are increasing the cross sectional area of the tube by a certain percentage. Say that you want to run 400cc injectors; here are the formulas for hacking the MAF.

Stock injectors are 270cc.

400 / 270 = 1.48
So the new injectors are approximately 48% larger than the stock ones. This means you must therefore make the MAF 48% larger to compensate for the larger injectors.

Next, measure the inside diameter of your MAF. The S14 inner diamter is approx. 2.45 inches. The S13 may be different, I don't know.

2.45 / 2 = 1.225 (radius)
1.225^2 = 1.500625
1.500625 * Pi = 4.7143635 in^2

Now, increase this number by the percentage as the larger injectors which in this case would be 48%.
4.7143635 * 1.48 = 6.977
6.977 / Pi = 2.2208
Sqrt(2.2208) = 1.4902
1.4902 * 2 = 2.9805 inches

After the minor innacuracies in measuring and so on, you will want to use about 96% of this final number you just got... so
2.9805 * .96 = 2.86128 inches

This is your new tube size needed for your MAF using 400cc injectors. Where you get a tube this size, is entirely up to you to find.

Lastly, you need to take the entire sensory unit from your old MAF which will include the box looking thing on top with the hot wire arm hanging down off of it. Place all of this onto the new tube you just got.

Have fun

Not exactly!
In order to use a different MAF, as far as I know, you have to get your ECU reflashed\reprogramed to accept the different voltage coming from the new MAF.
You can use any larger MAF with pretty much any injectors, as long as you get the ECU reflashed for those injectors.
If you don't, your car won't run because it will either run to rich or to lean.

This is true if you are using a completely different MAF, such as the 300zx MAF. If you just "hack" the MAF with the method that I posted, then you don't have to get the ecu reflashed. The same voltage will still be sent since you are using all the same wiring and sensor. The only thing changing is the size of the tube the sensor is in.

Re: Z32 maf and turbo

It needs to be set up on a dyno with suitable mapping software
