87 Accord LXi head swap

Does anyone know if it is totally nessesary to take the inside intake and exhaust manifolds completely off the car to replace the head on a 87 Accord LXi, or can I just unbolt them and lay them back away from the head? Thanks, Mike

its easier to completly remove them, either way you need to replace the gaskets so why not just make yourself more room to work?

You can get enough access by unbolting and laying them aside. The exhaust is easy enough but the intake takes many fingers... Its a tight fit reaching the nuts on the lower side
