97 Saturn LS RAdio and starter problem

I just replaced an aftermarket headunit in my neighbors 97 LS with another aftermarket headunit. Then the car wouldn't start no click or anything. The previous person who installed the radio chopped off the factory harness and hardwired the radio so i just cut the 12v constant, trigger, ground and speaker leads and wired in the new radio's harness to those.
So after getting no starter response or headunit power I tested the 12v constant it had no power but good fuse, then tested 12v trigger w/key on it has power so I joined them together(12v constant and trigger). Now the headunit works and the starter is turning over once but not cranking long enough to start the car.Any suggestions?

Re: 97 Saturn LS RAdio and starter problem

Is it even possible for the radio to have anything to do w/the starter not cranking.I looked up a wiring diagram for one w/factory alarm. It had an extra pink, yellow/black that isn't part of his vehicles harness, not there at all.
Could the starter problem just be a coincidence that just happened to happen.
having nothing to do w/ the radio. I've seen cars driving without their radios.

battery might be mostly dead. Go to the local autozone and have the starter, baterry and alternator checked. First make sure the battery has water in it.

I think it's odd that the 12VC constant had no power. You know there are fuses under the dash AND under the hood, my guess right now is that a fuse under the hood is blown.

Yeah,I checked the fuse panel inside it's on the right side of where the radio is.I did also check under the hood, all good.I'm guessing there is a short somewhere in the 12V constant circuit so i removed it and ran a wire straigh to the headunit from the battery.I called one of my buddies who is a professional installer of alarms and audio equipment and he said saturns are notorious for starters just going out with no warning. He said it's definitely just a coincidence since there is absolutely nothing on the radios harness that would effect the starter.
I still feel bad though my neighbor has to get a new starter and I can't put that on,I only have a small set of tools to do audio with.
