Re: Complete: Verde Ithaca Lamborghini Murcielago

I plan to do different versions of the cars. For instance, at the moment I'm working on my fourth Peugeot 206. No I'm not a collector, but a builder with a shortage of time.

Outstanding Work!

Phil:

Your job is amazing, from the color to the detail added it is an awesome work.

Congratulations

I'm going to build this model but the 40th Anniversary version, so I'll have some questions.

Regards!

If is not from PPG, where does the Verde Artemis come from?
I just got it, and must say it's awesome!

By the way, what is "teal"?

Hi Ramon,

Glad to hear you received the paint and you're happy with it. The Verde Artemis Pearl was derived from a Glasurit formula obtained through a European distributor who contacted Automobili Lamborghini for the original formula. It was a royal pain to get the exact match.

Teal = blue-green.

Re: Complete: Verde Ithaca Lamborghini Murcielago

I had some Verde Artemis mixed by Standox, no trouble at all. Wonder why PPG can't/wont do it?

Re: Complete: Verde Ithaca Lamborghini Murcielago

I'm not sure, unless it's because of it being a limited production run.

Ok, thanks, now, I'm in the middle of the application, I just applied the basecoat, and it works great!!!

Now, the question:
How much time is advisable to leave between base coat and midcoat?, and then how much time betweeen midcoat and clearcoat?

Thanks again

Re: Complete: Verde Ithaca Lamborghini Murcielago

Don't know about Cobra Colors paints in particular, but if they are based on PPG products then they should be similar to what I used. So with that proviso, let me say not much time is required at all. I only left a day between coats, although the weather here was warm and dry at the time, high 20s to early 30 degrees Celsius. If the temp is colder or damper where you are it may take longer. I figure state of the art automotive paints like these are designed to dry and be coated quickly to minimise turnaround times when repainting cars. Paint shops don’t want to be leaving work for long periods of time to cure.

Re: Complete: Verde Ithaca Lamborghini Murcielago

Phil is correct in saying that these paints don't require much lag time between applications. If the basecoat is dry then it's OK to apply the midcoat. To be more sure about it being dry though, let it sit overnight before proceeding.

I've painted 2 Lamborghini tricoat finishes on 2 separate cars, and I only waited about 2 hours between base coat and midcoat. I applied the basecoat in a few light coats, and it was dry in 1/2 hour or so. These lacquers dry so fast, it's amazing.

I then let the color coats sit overnight before spraying clear.
