Spark Plug exchange

Hi everyone, I have a 2004 corvette base. Plugs called for are 19256067, I was told my a local Corvette Center that using the iridium 12621258 would be more beneficial. Being the skeptic that I am I tried to research this and this plugs seem to be the plug for C6 LS2 motors. Anyone have any experience with this. I also have seem some parts store call out number as a replacement, wondered if this is iridium plug super cedes the old plug.

Thanks crewzn

I don't have a corvette but my experience is iridium plugs in a aluminum head is the best way to go. this material is high heat compatible .platinum cannot take the high temps so you must replace after 50K miles.

with a good running engine properly maintained iridium plugs for most last well over 100K miles some 200K miles..I use these in my 5.3L V8.. plugs still look new after 30K miles that was 2 years ago.

in cast iron heads platinum is good plug. my guess is you have the aluminum heads.

the reason to use iridium plug is reliability they do the same work as the plats just that they last longer so less chance of miss fires . also less cost since they do not require replacing for the life of the engine.

Re: Spark Plug exchange

Thanks, I'm not opposed to putting in the iridium plugs but GM has no replacement numbers for upgrading the platinum plugs. I've got them for my 2007 Avalanche 5.3 and there are many coded for the 6.0 and 6.2 liter 05 and older vettes but nothing for 97-2004 with a blessing from GM.

Re: Spark Plug exchange

I've used double platinum to close to 100,000 miles and never had a problem. The engine was over 90,000 miles. I feel a vehicle is close to scrap around 150,000.
