Jatco cvt faults

Has anyone ever tore down a bad cvt from their Caliber to find out what actually went bad in it? My mother in law has an '07 and it slips in OD on the highway, most notably when going up a grade when extra torque is needed, but also recently I noticed it slipping even when driving slow through town. What causes would cause the slipping?
