MerZedes-Benz 190E Evo2 - WEST - K.Thiim DTM 1991 1/24

And here again with another nice racer of the past. The amg mercede benz 190 evo2.
Once again the kit comes form the old production of fujimi. Today the production of this japanese maker is incredibly better than this model. yes they improved in 20 yrs of model making, thans god.
She belongs probably to the moulds of the 90s. The overall look of the model looks quite welldone....at a first sight and I was dreaming just to paint it properly, but then, after Henrick nice surgeatically thread on a 190 evo , also I get jealous and wanted to saw some plastic, after checking better some pictures of the actual car.
Of course also the interior is pretty ridicolous (read ok nothing..and the few provided is mistaken), but ok. Once again if you desire a nice DTM car outside of tamiya production you have to suffer a little bit.

The model I got is this:

and I think it is a reissue of the models done in the 90s with racing decals. This car provides all the plastics done by fujimi meant to make a race car or a street version.
In fujimi good intentions. The boxart is really nice imho, and really makes u say..hey ! I wanna do a DTM car!

the you open the nice box... and start to realize...

and when u cross some pictures of the real cars you realize realize there is something ...different in the plastics you have in your hands....to the images you see. Look closely..

fujimi mounted..even pretty decently...

the real car...ehm...

so..to make a long story short, I think to make her look better I have to cut the roof and higher it, cut the fenders and enlarge them all, cut the front bumper and enlarge it, change the wheels with proper Oz DTM wheels from tamiya, change tyres, invent an interior and THEN, only then, plan for a cool racing livery.

Ok..I´m done..

Re: MerZedes-Benz 190E Evo2 - WEST - K.Thiim DTM 1991 1/24

ok ok...stop bla and show something to us. I hear you...

she is too slim

windows looks so small on the kit..

tamiya DTM lower part. I took a spare sprue with the rims, it comes with a nice interior of a similar era dtm car. Think the lower roof is from a Calibra cliff

this is a tricky part to nitice. Fujimi made the shorter bumper of the early series of the 190s...not mistaken, so thats why it doesnt come brutally to your balls as the bmw m3 plastics....but is really shourter and different than the racer evo2. It was not so immediate for me to notice well the difference. lets start with the easy cuttings...

tamiya Oz vs fujimi whatevers

in fujimi box they anyway provide also those nie ones, surely useful on other racers

a racer quite famous...

buit she is black, and i dont like so much black merZedes, despite the driver was a winning one, until Alfa decided to make the 155, nicknamed in italy the mercedes terminator...

Gooks great as always. Hope you will consider making a resin copies.
I would guess there will be many takers, as it is absolutely a must to
make a model of an actual car.

I dont really think it would be worthed the effort, sorry.
Fujimi basically made a lookalike bodyshell and all the interiors (despite not so much visible at the end) simply does not exist.
Wheels are also mistaken.

Mould this one in resin means for me to spend a 1000 dollars in resin, sylicons, clays, moulds test etc etc.....so I must be absolutely sure of what I get at the end of the process.
And I am already producing the 76 rsr, the dino 206, the engine for her,the cabin for tha italian 682/690s,the truck trilex wheels, the ECV2, and too many other small details as helmets and spoilers. It becomes a little too much for me, cause 90% of the process I am the maker of this all.
And I am waiting right now my porsche 2013 rsr arriving soon.
It is a big effort that every time stops me for 6/8 months just to make copies of my works. I want to see my models complete before . Never been so much after money in all this. You all know that better than others.

Not really on this one. Too much stuff is missing or mistaken at the origin really sorry mate.
My hope, and not only mine, would be somebody as beemax would do this car in 24. they did for bmw and for the volvo 240, why not this cool mercedes with so many liveryies?

and also revell wanted to do my 2016 Ford gt.....ah no, they had bancrupcy...

Re: MerZedes-Benz 190E Evo2 - WEST - K.Thiim DTM 1991 1/24

well well well now the nose dilemma.
Basically think fujimi made a little mess with the nose of the street car, and the first A group racers (they also made the kit. Have it in leitonhouse livery too).
Street

A group:

evo2

DTM

so nose surgeon comes..

et voila....now i think it looks quite better:

I completely understand. Thanks for replay. I too opt to spend my time building my own models, instead of
spending that time machining and selling parts. Let's hope BeeMax or someone else will do an accurate
model of this car.

Re: MerZedes-Benz 190E Evo2 - WEST - K.Thiim DTM 1991 1/24

time also to fit the rear big wing on this mercedes. Fusimi messed up the parts with a lack of 1mm on the upper part of the spoiler..

and the interiors. Not 100% precise cause coming from another DTM car of the same era, but thats it, and anyway better than the nothing provided by fujimi

i made the air brake ducts tubes with drink stuff (after consuming the drink, a margarita...)

then I was soo happy. This newer shape really convinces me much mroe than priginal fujimi one. So, I want to challenge one of the most colorful livery showed by this car, the West cigarettes. So nice in red and white, and time ago i get some DMC decals to do this.

Unfortunately DMC probably sold me an old printed decal sheet, that crack and become powder in the moment the decal film touch the water. I tried to save the situation with all my magic power..but thats it...
The nightmare began with wheels decals. was a test, and yes, my decals are not to be thrusted...

a nightmare to fix those little ones. I clearcoated all the other decals with ts-13...

Re: MerZedes-Benz 190E Evo2 - WEST - K.Thiim DTM 1991 1/24

when problems like this happen, it is always important to take a pause and think about the mistakes done. I think I found mines, so stop cry and let's start again and with fresher stuff. Nothing bad to DMC, really. He probably printed the decals he sold me too long ago, and they simply become dry. Not his fault, it is cause such kind of short-run decals can have issues like this. Sad cause they were really precise in measures. Next trial will be with pure breed studio27 stuff, that become quite rare and hard to find.

strip off my model made me change some minor things.
This time to work better on transparent I cut away the little frame on C pillar, and I increased the size of the lower front bumper spoiler. Looking at some pictures he looks much more external then my original position.
Sonax car is this way, with 2 supports on it too. really aggressive lip

of course also this part is missing in fujimi kit.

and quickly repaint the basic schema cause st27 wants the same painting option for their decals.

now the merZedes looks this way, sitting on my lower part with a proper setup fitting. Looks nice imho
I also fitted better the rear wheel arches. from factory they are not so round as in pictures. This detail I noted only lately

Tequila-sunrise helps. The merc now goes to the pits to allow the base to be completely dry before the new decal attempt...stay tuned
