Re: Ford Escort RS1800
Fantastic build! Very well done! I am really happy that you finished this model! It is, as always, very inspiring (as your transkit and build was very inspiring for my Porsche 914 build) and shows that you can actually get some great results from an old kit. I am really impressed!

Re: Ford Escort RS1800
Just seen this now.. That's a beauty JC.
Best Build of this kit I've seen and the thread is both informative and a tutorial. That's the best thing about modelling on this Forum, the discussions and reference material people present with great builds on the back of that. Cheers.. Well done |

Re: Ford Escort RS1800
Hi, I know a lot of time has last from the end of this WIP thread, but I hope you could help me anyway.
I'm going to build the same model (Ford Escort RS 1800 mkII from Montecarlo rally of 1979) and I'd like to ask you where did you found your references. It seems you had access to old drawings a d pics of that time which are really hard to find on the web. Finally a question on the rear axle position of the model: I've made a first test to check everything is ok but I've found the rear wheels to be really far from the centre of the rear wheel arch!!! Did you had the same issue? If yes, how did you solved it? Thank you for any help you will be able to provide me. Regards PS: your ford model was really well done!!! Congratulations! |

I collected reference material from several books and the internet. Several forum members also provided excellent information about the car. This thread will provided a lot of information to help your build. As for the rear axle, I didn't use the kit wheels so I don't recall having an issue. However you can extend the axle to get the wheels properly located in the wheel arches.

Re: Ford Escort RS1800
I guess he ment the wheelbase and not the offset of the tire/rim.
You remade the whole suspension anchor points so you adjusted it naturally but obviously the kit suspension for the rear isnt centered good enough.

Re: Ford Escort RS1800
I used the kit parts for the basic suspension and scratch built many additional parts. I don't recall adjusting the position of the rear suspension however.

Re: Ford Escort RS1800
Hi guys,
It took me 4 months of modifications, parts building, detailing and.... a continuous stream flow of bad words I'm not reporting here (!!!), but I've finally done it!!! To be fully honest I have to thank you afxracing for your well detailed WIP which has been part of my references for this work. I've posted the full WIP on my usual Italian forum...here is the link https://www.modellismo.net/forum/sho...d.php?t=133011 [AUTO] Ford Escort RS 1800 - Montecarlo 1979 I hope you'll appreciate it! Thank you again |
