02 gti vs 99 gsr
Alright well I want to buy a new car. so here is the skinny. I like gsr's but there are pros and cons to both
GSR pros -easy to repair -parts are easy to find -reliable -engines, thanks to jap emmisions, are easy to come by (any others) Cons -highly stolen -less hp -another honda tuner on the streets GTI pros -german engeneering -great show and go qualitys -Not another honda tuner, different -not as stolen -vr6 pushes 200hp cons -parts are a little more widespred to fix -expensive fix -if needed engines are hard to find, for cheap -not really user friendly -don't know how reliable it is I am stuck between the two. I love the teg but am really worried about where I live and it getting stolen. And because of that risk my insurance. And I like the GTI for it's euro show quality. But I don't want it to need a part or engine down the road and have to try and find a cheap one. I mean you can google honda/acura motors and come up with so many places selling them. I need second oppinions and facts. feel free to argue my facts I need any criticism* it will all help. thanks. |

Re: 02 gti vs 99 gsr
A GTI isn't a cheap car to maintain from what other people have said, despite that its still a great car. True for many Volkswagen/Audi vehicles for that matter. I would get the GSR if it came down to these two. If I had to worry about theft then I would get the best alarm system on the market, even if it means inflicting pain like those flamethrower systems in South Africa I think.
Ever considered a Saab? They can be made to go really damn quick with the aftermarket support it has, ownership costs is probably similar to the VW, and most models have turbos that produce roughly 170-215 hp stock depending on the year and model. I also hear that it is very difficult to steal them since the ignition is in the center console. As for the looks, well, I like it, but that's me.

Between the two, I'd take the Teg. Have you considered the Celica GTS? A bit more power than the Teg, and there aren't as many floating around. I like the Celica look, almost exotic-like with the power to back up those looks.

Never thought of saab did think about the celica. thought about the rsx two but that would have to have high miles. I will look into both the saab ad the celica.
edit: any spacific saab model to fit the bill. I am only 18 and by the time I get the loan I should have good credit if what my banker told me is right. |

I'd go for the GSR hands down. So much fun to work on, easy + cheap to mod. Also it alot more reliable at higher miles and cheaper to maintain. Lastly it should be the cheaper of the two as far as up front costs.

Re: 02 gti vs 99 gsr
You'll want a Saab 9-3. May not be able to afford a 9-5. The Viggen model will have the highest horsepower numbers in the 200s. SEs will be between 170-180. Swapping stock turbos is possible on some models let alone upgrades, ecm tuning, suspension upgrades, exhaust. They aren't cheap cars to own either though. I just mention it since you are considering the GTI.

Re: 02 gti vs 99 gsr
well here was a slight twist. I know that I like tegs and all and I thought about getting a 02 or 03 type s rsx. there are a few within my cost range just not many. but I also thought 1995 240. it has good support. lots of upgrads and is reconized. so now I am stuck between RSXs GSR and 240. I see 240's for like 6000 stock so its a little cheaper. but don't know how hard they are to maintain. I don't want to drift really just kinda like the thought of having RWD. so any insight to this small update?
