The Mégane II has been elected by an European jury.

Not bad... sport wagons are pretty cool. I wish we had Renault over here, or anyone with some decent diesels to offer.

What's a Toyota Yaris?

I don't know for Renault, but if you want some french cars, PSA (Peugeot Citroën) will come back in the USA arround 2005. Alfa Romeo (Italian) will also come back in the same time. But you can buy Alfas in the USA now : "Autodelta" is importing some (the equivalent of M for BMW or AMG for Mercedes).

VW sells diesels there, isn't it ? I saw a Jetta TDI in Florida last summer. Do BMW, Mercedes, Audi (etc.) sell diesel in the States ?

The Yaris is a competitor of the 206, Clio, Fiesta, etc. (picture).

Yeah, we have VW diesels, but only the 90 hp ones- not so weak they're unusable, but with nothing to sway people from their faithful gasoline engines. Mercedes used to sell diesels too, but they stopped in 1998.

Hmm... I wonder if the Yaris is related at all to the new Matrix (a Pontiac/Toyota joint design derived mostly from the Corolla.)

The Toyota Matrix (which exists only on the US market) is not the same car as the Yaris (pic). But that's not unpossible that the two cars have the same platform. Don't know

The TDI 90 are good but they are the less powerfull and older. You've 100, 130 and 150hp on the Golf and Passat, and also a V6 TDI on the Passat (same motor as on the Audi A4 and A6). The Cayenne has a V10 TDI 330hp !
That's suprising that VAG doesn't export these motors. Are you sure ?

Unfortunately, we don't get any of the good diesels here in North America...

BTW Temperanza, what sways people away from the gas engines is 60+ mpg on cheaper fuel...
