Question Boost gauge?

The boost gauge on my 1992 VR4 isn't working. Is this a common problem? Does anyone have a suggestion for the best place to start looking for the problem?
Thanks in advance.

Mine just doesn't move at all. I am thinking something could be unplugged or maybe a bad sending unit. The car recently had new ignition/plugs, timing belt, etc. so it's possible a wire was left unhooked. But I have no idea where the sending unit for this gauge is.

Anyone?

Re: Boost gauge?

I think it just hooks up with the ECU and uses the readings from the MAS to judge boost, thats why people getting a boost controller are supposed to get a gauge also since the MAS readings aren't a direct measurement of boost and can be inacurate.

Re: Boost gauge?

Whats the best second gauge to get? I hear people saying that the air fuel gauges aren't accurate since they're not wideband, what should I get? EGT?

that would be a boost controller ...a boost gauge is relatively simple. The most time consuming/annoying part is routing a vacuum tube and the electrical wiring (for the lighting) down the a-pillar, through the dash, out the firewall and back up to the back of the plenum. It takes patience, a close hanger, and alot of time upside down under the steering wheel.

Thourun, EGT is a good choice to go with, but it might depend more on what your future mods/electronics will be...

Re: Boost gauge?

Not to argue, but I'd suggest getting a vaccuum based boost gauge that is clearly visable...I know it is alot easier to just glance up at my boost gauge than to glance down at my turbo timer and cycle through different options.
